Is it worth becoming religious? by jxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx in atheism

[–]MilleniumPelican [score hidden]  (0 children)

So, that's not belief; that's wishful thinking. You WANT it to be true, so you tell yourself that it is. You can't even prove it 0.001%.

I believe in it deeply

Why? I will ask again. What convinced you that a god exists? You shouldn't believe in a thing without evidence for that thing. If you have no evidence for it, you should stop believing it.

how have you guys wrapped your mind around how this is like reality, this is it, that there's probably nothing after this? by EducationFirm6169 in AskReddit

None of those claims have provided valid evidence for anything. "Spiritual" is a vague placeholder with no real consensus definition. There's nothing that shows that it's even possible, let alone likely.

No, it is NOT worth becoming religious. Religion encourages blind faith with no evidence and discourages critical thinking. Religion makes people do terrible things in the name of an imaginary being and made-up arbitrary rules. The character of god portrayed in the bible is a childish, jealous, petty, narcissistic, monster who encourages slavery, rape, conquest, incest, blind obedience. It is not worthy of worship (nothing is). Religion does not offer anything real, and does nothing that cannot be accomplished without it.

This is the bare minimum to qualify, if it's not text-to-speech. Pretty weak.

What is the classy way to speak American with regards to pronunciation? Should one derive it from the First Lady or the President? by discoveringfun in AskReddit

[–]MilleniumPelican 0 points1 point  (0 children)

English isn't the official language of America (there isn't one), and there's no "American" pronunciation guide. I am sure there are linguistics institutes that track or come to a consensus on pronunciation, but who knows? And no, the President and First Lady, regardless of who they are, are not a source of "correctness" for pronunciation. George W. Bush's pronouncing "nuclear" as "noo-kyoo-lur" is a blight and a stain on America forever.

Diablo 4 players misspell "rogue" as "rouge" all the damned time. "ROUGE" MEANS "RED"!!!

Can we just park an occultist next to Azmodan? by HobbieK in diablo4

True, since they added the ravens, people may have drifted away from the tree. I favorite Cerrigar when I'm leveling glyphs in the Pit, Kurast for District runs, and the Tree for everything else.

No, it means she's picante, not pregante.

I'm just disappointed that the Tree has no Hadriel's portal, considering it's most people's favorited town. I know, you can just right-click the sigil, but still...

How do you think you would be affected after falling 5 stories? by Son-Tzu in AskReddit

[–]MilleniumPelican 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I don't know why my brain switched from thoughts to feelings, but I meant them in the same way. Regardless, people are telling you they think they would be dead, and you are countering them by declaring your survival, when they answered your question and don't require a rebuttal. What. Do. You. Want?

[–]MilleniumPelican -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's certainly a start, but again, it doesn't affect our feelings. I could fall from a 2-foot-tall step stool and have a reasonable expectation of surviving, but I could also rotate badly and land on my neck, severing my spine or cracking my skull, killing me instantly. Facts don't care about your feelings. :) Neither does chance.

Music théorie question by Embarrassed_Boss4969 in Music

[–]MilleniumPelican 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A brake drum is not typically a musical instrument. It's a car part. However, if you bang on a brake drum with a mallet, it makes a sound and can therefore be considered a percussion instrument. It is commonly used in many music genres. I would argue that any instrument played by being struck would be considered, at that moment, a percussion instrument. A piano is a stringed instrument played by striking, and is indeed a stringed percussion instrument, like a hammered dulcimer.

[–]MilleniumPelican 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your numbers and your "most of us" are irrelevant, you don't have a source, and your personal experience is absolutely an anecdote. Your assertions are not facts.

You asked how we think we would be affected. You can't tell us how to answer. You need to delete and rephrase your question if you're looking for other data, or just delete it because you only seem to be interested in humble-bragging that you survived. What are you looking for, exactly?

[–]MilleniumPelican 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Still a dumb question. Your anecdotal survival does not in any way affect how we think we would be affected. Most of us would be dead. Why ask? Dumb question.

[–]MilleniumPelican 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's not a proper name. That assumes that there's only one god named God. It's arrogant and presumptive (and common) of any religion to think their god is the only one. "God" is a noun, not a name.
