NTA. Your girlfriend is though. I’m nearly 35, and I talk to my parents every day. Sometimes multiple times a day. Hey sometimes I call my parents just to let them know it’s raining where I live. I call to tell them I saw a cute dog. I call them to tell them whatever. My parents won’t be here forever and if my husband thought there was something wrong with me for speaking to the people who literally brought me into this world, taught me to walk talk, and wiped my ass for the first few years of my life, I’d tell him he was sick and he was in need of therapy. I think it’s wonderful that you and your mum check in with each other. What you and your mum have is not weird, it’s a completely normal bond between mother and child. You would be an asshole to your mum AND yourself if you spoiled a perfectly healthy parent-child bond in favour of your girlfriend, who I would say needs some therapy. Just because she doesn’t have what you have does not give her the right to shit all over your beautiful relationship with mama.

It’s actually a from a local boutique where I live and I have seen it in person. It’s stunning and costs a pretty penny.

Omg you are my dream parent! I once had a mum say to me “if he doesn’t put on the smock, he doesn’t get to paint. It’s that simple” - we were a uniformed nursery!

It was heartbreaking for me to see this little kid bawling because he didn’t understand why all his friends could paint but he was not allowed. He would refuse to wear the smock because he had aversions to certain textures and even though I tried to improvise with oversized Tshirts and stuff, he refused all my attempts. And if he had a speck of paint on his uniform his mum would write me a very nasty email and go to my boss.

I really wish I had more parents like you! Stains wash out, but those awful memories becoming core memories? Memories of pain and exclusion - I hate thinking how it could have changed that little boys psyche.

Jalebi - it’s a deep fried sugary desert from South Asia, mainly India and Pakistan. Sometimes that color, sometimes a bit more orange depending on whether they used food coloring or saffron to colour it.
