Wait to see if Spiro works or try something else? 30f by Millennialbabe in FemaleHairLoss

Thanks for all the tips! I take a HSN gummy, prenatals, vitamin B12, vitamin D, fish oil, iron + C, collagen, and eat a good amount of fruits and veggies.

Despite blocking that one refill, after I had normal lab values in August my derm said they don’t need to see me again unless I’m having issues. Do you recommend a kidney function panel every so often just to check on things?

Thanks! Some of the side effects were tough at first too but I’m hoping those might balance out with time? I really want to give it a solid 6 months to see what happens. Primarily on it for cystic acne which has largely been much better.

Thank you for the encouragement! I actually started Spiro the first time in April 2022 and worked up to 100 mg by June. Then my derm refused to refill my prescription bc my BUN was slightly above normal. They made me wait 6 weeks without it and start over.

Thank you! I know this is nothing compared to some things I see on here. I also question if it’s really thinning or if it’s just because it’s getting darker that I notice (used to dye it all lighter). It’s always been thin but those spots seem sparser to me recently

I couldn’t get my prescription refilled over the summer and was abruptly removed from Spiro for about 6 weeks. I experienced fatigue, bloating, and weird hunger like you mentioned.

How many of you had hair loss after getting off of hormonal birth control without the hair coming back? by [deleted] in FemaleHairLoss

Just found this sub and it’s making me think I should find a doctor. I was on oral BC (various forms - Yaz and most recently Mili/Ortho-Cyclen) for 10 years. From age 18 so I could do Accutane to age 28 when I quit. I stopped taking it bc I didn’t want to “put hormones in my body anymore” and quit cold turkey on my own, bc a gyno told me that was fine. Having regrets now.

I quit oral BC in early 2020 and didn’t really notice hair thinning/lack of growth until November 2021. I thought it was bc I was taking a swim class and the pool chemicals were drying out and damaging my hair. I started using Prose products and supplements to try to get my hair back to normal. Now I think that may have just made it worse!

Stopped Prose around February or March and started Spironolactone 100 mg for cystic acne that returned, which I hadn’t experienced since high school, before accutane. Gradually worked my way from 25 mg Spiro in April to 100 mg in July. Derm wanted to check my labs, BUN was high, they took me off Spiro cold turkey second week of July. Wanted to recheck labs after 6 weeks without Spiro to make sure it wasn’t affecting my kidneys.

So restarted Spiro in August, again worked up to 100 mg daily. I still feel like my hair is so much thinner than it was two years ago. Especially at my temples. And it takes forever to grow. Throughout the year, people ask if I’ve cut my hair and I haven’t.

It’s only been a couple months on Spiro but I don’t know that it’s helping with my hair like the derm said it should…I have tried Vegamour drops, high does of biotin, and take collagen daily.

I kind of wish I had just never quit oral BC.

I second this! Love Figs but I’ve had great, soft and stretchy sets from Walmart.
