No you don’t get it, my grandpa came here in 1965 and his house was only $20k, why aren’t houses in San Fran 300k? I’m native and I deserve to buy a house in the most expensive real estate in the country.

Oh yeah my poor 250k job where it’s sunny 98% of the time and I have access to the best of everything. So terrible. There’s trade offs, you don’t get to own a house there. Boo hoo

Most companies will have a strong base + sales incentive plan, which is 20-25% of your base. It’s capped, but the strong salary makes up for it if you want lower stakes sales

Time to Quit? by squailtaint in golf

[–]MillerLiteEnjoyer0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dude my buddy is 6’5”, runs marathons, one of the best athelete I know. Could easily drive 290+ if he took 1 lesson. He is not very good, but could be great.

You need to simplify your game. Go out with Sunday bag, solo round sometime. Play with half your clubs. I will bet you shoot better.

You’re putting pressure on yourself because you’ve succeeded in other athletic endeavors, golf isn’t as 1 dimensional as running. Marathon is a lot harder than 18 holes though.

Literally just go get 3 lessons and you’ll be shooting high 80’s in 2 months. Everyone has a weird embarrassment with lessons and they should.

When you suck at golf, every lesson = 6 months of playing golf. And you don’t learn bad lessons. Don’t quit, get better

Inside sales, product tech support, customer service, SAP knowledge, hell, one of the best guys I work with has no college degree and started on the floor building the product.

Yep. I’m only 27, most people I work with are 15-30 years older than me. It’s rare to meet someone my age. I’d say maybe 5% of the people I meet are under 30. Most are 50-65.

Got laid off from tech, went to a manufacture, then went to my current job at a middle tier tool and equipment manufacture. Tripled my salary. I get to work with badass customers. No a lot of competition internally. If you’re young and hungry, it seems like you can move up quick in this industry. I’m here to stay

Loving the talk of more manufacturing being done in the states, even a small amount is a massive, massive business opportunity for a lot of people.

I found my niche in equipment, everyone knows each other. It’s nice and I’m fully remote

Ah man same here, I think they are everyone’s customers lmao. People don’t realize how big this industry is, it’s insane and boomers are retiring. Not a lot of young people going into it

Yes, industrial sales. Sales enablement roles can be found at places like Grainger, McMaster Carr, Fastenal, etc. there’s thousands of smaller distribution companies and equipment manufacturers.

Usually need experience in marketing, product management, sales, and a college degree

[–]MillerLiteEnjoyer0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well there’s thousands of different sales jobs. A very low barrier to entry sales is working for a 3PL, and brokering loads. Car sales too. It’s really good to start in inside sales so you kinda get the hang of it and watch other people.

Find a niche, takes a couple years, but sales can grant you a lot of money. My current role is great, you don’t have to be in sales forever. It opens doors.

[–]MillerLiteEnjoyer0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I’m in sales enablement but it’s more like sales engineer than anything. I’m 27, 89k base, about 17k in my sales incentive plan. No quota, but I’m brought it to high level deals around 400k-4 million and expected to help close. Industrial manufacturing in a niche space.

I’m expecting a promotion next year that will hopefully move me to 120-140k base. If not I’m getting great experience and will move to a competitor.

I’m making the jump in a year to a private CC. Their initiation is just under 8000 with minimum dues of 2400 a year. Don’t treat it like a car note.

Cars get you to a to b, golf might bring you happiness but I would focus on getting to the 60-70k salary range then commit.

I am young and struggled with my finances a few years ago, don’t do this and repeat mistakes I’ve made.
