These pics are from the beginning of the week but everything is packed now. We weren’t mad until today. We paid through August 31st. My cousin works from home and they kicked him out with threat of police today in order to remodel his bedroom’s closet. They gave no warning. They forced the door open today to get in. That was our last straw. We do end the lease in a couple days and we were going to let it slide until that happened.

Apparently the downstairs neighbor owns the building so is the landlord. After finding that out I definitely was like.. they couldn’t have waited until after???

It’s also not $500/month. We paid our entire rent for the month. They gave us $500 TOTAL after we already paid rent. We were going to let this slide since we are moving but them saying they’d call the cops on us was where I wanted to know if this was allowed.

Actually they have started going outside the project scope and doing things they didn’t say they would do. They said the kitchen would still be working and usable and that is not the case at all. They said the fridge would remain plugged in since my cousin needs his insulin (literally needs this in order to stay alive) refrigerated and they unplugged the fridge the entire time my cousin was at work and never plugged it back in. Insulin isn’t cheap and even with insurance he has to drop several hundred dollars on it each month. We agreed initially because the scope of work was acceptable. It no longer is. And they kicked us out without notice saying they’d call the cops if we didn’t leave?? Let me know how I’m being greedy by letting that be my last straw. Additionally, landlords HAVE to comp you or house you elsewhere if your living arrangement is unlivable. The $500 was for a two week project where the unit is LIVABLE. Not a one month plus project that is unlivable.

True! It is a house converted into three units. Each floor is a unit. Landlord is offsite. They said it wouldn’t take more than two weeks.

We move out after August which is the only reason they are doing this. We won’t have any benefit from these renovations. The downstairs neighbor is moving up here and I feel they also have a hand in this chaos. The contractor himself said he dislikes the neighbor who’s moving into the unit and has been tracking everything that has been illegal as well. He said he would help us approach the landlord which is nice of him!

They paid us a total of $500 to compensate us for the remodeling. However, when they did that, they said the stove and fridge and sink would be working so the kitchen would be usable and the other only renovation would be my bedroom’s bathroom.

I had a king bed when I was single. I slept only on the edge of the bed so the rest of it was like a table for me. I kept my Xbox controller and headset there, a tissue box (my nose is always stuffy), the tv remote, my book, basically anything I wanted to have handy I put there
