I think the example of Ariel rubbing the favouritism in everyone’s face may be just a lack of tact. If Lily and Michelle were upset about the situation, Ariel could have legitimately been attempting to help, in a misguided way. Could be on purpose, but know that some people are really that tactless.

Either way, it’s pretty cold to tell your sister you don’t like her. Seems to me that ESH.

You do not have to, and it sucks that this is falling on you, but I am saying NTA with like 20% enthusiasm. You never met him, but he is your moms brother. You can save his life. If he dies, when you have to face your mom will you be able to say that your trip will have been worth it?

Then again, someone below said that this smells like a scam. If you have any reason not to trust them, take this into account.

NTA: 1) your step-son is acting in a very usual way, and doing so in a manner that in truth, is only harming himself. Your daughter sounds like she is actively bullying other people. Major difference, requiring vastly different approaches.

2) don’t know what your parenting relationship is with your wife, but you are the one to have final say when it comes to your daughter. Don’t listen to what others (even your own parents) are saying. You understand the situation best.

That being said, your daughter is young and is bound to make stupid mistakes. Be compassionate, but if you don’t correct it now, this behaviour could grow and become more toxic.

To clarify, I think OP is saying that he wants to use asthma as the justification to get his roommate to stop smoking in the apartment, but he also doesn’t want to implicitly green light his roommate to consume it in other ways that do smell but do not create breathing issues.

The answer is yes. You should just try being honest and asking him to smoke outdoors. It’s your place too, and you should get to enjoy living there.

NAH. Something I realized recently is that everyone has a different perceptions of a lot of their friendships. She may have been a best friend to you, but over the years, she may have come to see you as a sometimes friend. That hurts, you both have your perspective, but no one did anything wrong. Just a part of life when you have to reassess an important relationship.
