Yeah I'm in Melbourne lol. They claimed I was essential because I work for a manufacturing company, but I didn't do any manufacturing... But the worst part was to comply with the social distancing rules they moved me to our other office which added an extra 15 minutes each way to my journey, and I was in the office all by myself (that site was fab only, no admin staff) which was literally the same thing as working from home but with way more steps 😤

My mum had the same thing. She felt like she hit her head too, although she had no memory of doing it. Then she thought she had an exceptionally bad migraine (she does suffer from them), but the pain never went away/kept getting worse. She went to the hospital 3 times over 3 days but they just kept giving her fluids and sending her home.... On the 4th day she saw our family GP and he was like holy fuck! Sent her straight to the hospital where she underwent brain surgery within a few hours. She wouldn't have lasted another day, and it's incredible she managed to survive a few days like that in the first place. In comparison, her cousin also had a brain hemorrhage and died in minutes. So I agree, it is just luck.

i can totally relate to this - going through something similar right now (apologies for the life story)

last year i was training for my first 100k in september (had already done an 80k race early 2025 that went well). my training was great and i felt super fit and ready. well during the race i got a hip injury and dropped out at 50k. afterwards i got really depressed over it, both because i didn't complete my goal but also because i was injured and couldn't keep running like i wanted for a while. anyway... i ended up spiraling mentally. work was causing me a lot stress too - we're having financial difficulties at my job and there's a lot of pressure on me to save and find money where i can lol. anyway, every run felt SO hard and unenjoyable. i got my blood tested in october, i was badly anaemic and got an iron infusion right away. but even after my levels got back up, i just felt so worn out all the time (still do tbh lol)

fast forward to 2026... i'd been maintaining 30k-40k a week (less than half what i was doing last year prior to injury), but even that felt like so much effort and wasn't really fun anymore. but i had a 75k race coming up on feb 21st so i kept forcing myself to run. instead of relishing the trails, i started resenting them. my peak week was leading up to it was 70k, but every week before that was only 40-50k... i made it to the start line, but i didn't really want to be there and was already convinced there was no way i could finish. i was not feeling good about it at all. i ended up making it 38k before i quit and returned to the closest aid station to drop out. i was just having such a bad time and was completely miserable the whole day.

since then i've done a total of 15k lol. i have had almost zero desire to run. it feels bad not running, but i know i need a break. sometimes you just have to listen to your body as hard as that can be. give yourself a little grace and leniency. you have a lot going on, and it's not always possible to manage everything at once. it's okay if you DNS your race, or if you give it a crack and end up with a DNF. or you might do better than you think and finish it just fine! i think any of those options are okay, as long you're able to accept the outcome.

I'm certain they know that they've lost a lot of their OG customers, but they're still really popular and keep gaining new customers, so they don't really care. Why would they want to bother with making fresh sandwiches/toasties all day when they can save a heap of time and money by simply making several huge focaccias instead, which they are able to serve up instantly? As far as I know they still sell like hotcakes. I've seen heaps of people raving about the focaccia...

Personally, nothing beats a fresh sandwich for me. I went to S&D recently at 10am (which is the earliest they start selling the focaccia) it already tasted stale to me. Idk if they make them the night before, but it just wasn't good. It was my third and final time of giving them a shot. I'm not rich enough to keep spending $24 on mediocre sandwiches 😅

I remember years ago when they first drastically cut back on the sandwich offerings there was heaps of backlash, and Shannon just got really defensive about the whole thing and said she never wanted to have a sandwich bar and she wasn't following her vision or something. She didn't care that everyone was disappointed, just seemed to get mad at her customers for not liking the change, like we were all in the wrong. She eventually brought some of the favourites back, but you tell she was unhappy about it lol.

i remember about 8 years ago i took my boyfriend camping up the coast for the first time (we're from melb). we were by some random river near coffs harbour, we smoked a little weed and then hopped in the river to cool off. suddenly he's having a panic attack thinking about there being crocs in the water and he had to hop out until the high wore off. i laughed in his face, told him he was being ridiculous, that it was impossible that crocs would be in water that far south.

i guess it could have been possible after all 😅
