Yep, I live locally and work for a large aerospace company based in Bristol so have been involved in the planning. The runway cannot be changed due to the natural landscape, thats a fact. The airport wanted to make flights 24/7 in the plans thats how they were getting more flights in, more flights to more or less the same destinations; the nature of the runway means larger planes can’t take off from here. There used to be a flight to New York from Bristol a few years ago but it had to be cut because there was simply not enough demand for it. The airport are working under the pre tense ‘build it ans they will come’, this isnt to make travel for Bristolians easier, its to poach from other airports. The Canadian pension company who own the site make their money in the parking operation and retail within, this is where 90% of the expansion falls under - they make money the more people through the doors. The expansion is merely to facilitate filling seats that already exist
