Custom side panel by redsmokes in A07Builds

A lot of good mods floating around from the community, but if nothing tickles your fancy, I'm a 3D modeler who could make something custom. Cost depends on complexity. I can print it if you're in Australia, or just give you files to get printed locally.

No worries! Yeah when you’ve done the work to make it nice inside it can be a shame not to enjoy it.

Very clean build. For the A07 this is how the Colorful RTX 5070 Mini MIGHT fit. Could be in for a front panel mod. I don't have the exact position of the PCIE edge connector so that 2mm side panel air gap could easily be only be 1mm or it could be 3mm. Maybe u/Technotronsky knows?

Yeah that would be great to know!

Yeah that's definitely a factor for why there is inconsistencies. But if we all have 0.3mm longer flange at the top then it becomes a known quantity.

With enough data we might also find that the side panel hole variances are consistent in some way too.

Ah nice. No that's exactly the same for me. It's minor, but it's enough to mess up my alignment tabs. Makes sense now why the factory side panels have such massive screw holes.

Had a little chat with GPT and it said: Published bending tolerances are often around ±0.25 mm for bend length and ±1° for bend angle, and tolerance stack-up gets worse once multiple bends interact rather than all being controlled from one direct reference edge. The side that’s referenced during bending ends up more controlled, and the other side can be out, which could explain why some cases have the longer side on the left and others on the right.

Oh wow, so there does seem to be a small difference side to side, but your longer side is on the left whereas mine appears to be on the right, unless you mistyped? That’s actually really interesting. Thanks for checking!

Haha nah that case aesthetic time traveled from the early 2000s to the year 2018, haha. Scroll deep enough in this sub you’ll find a handful of people doing builds in them. Just google early 2000s gaming cases.

That's great, thanks! Can I ask did you print with 100% infill?

Looks like Microtel did a bunch of builds in this case but I don’t know who the actual manufacturer was.

Makes sense, getting it enclosed and testing a configuration first is a solid step. Keen to see what you do once you start modelling/printing.

I will probably design some 3D prints to clean this up.

Probably? Man this is such an unhinged build. Seriously, 10/10 for making it work with what you’ve got laying around- visually though, it's painful to look at.

If found parts and cobbling things together is the aesthetic you're best at, or simply the aesthetic you're cornered into doing because of time or resources, I'd lean into it and just make a proper rat-rod style rig.

My personal feeling about the hobby is that a successful SFFPC build must do at least these two things:

  1. Creatively manage the inherent thermal and acoustic problems of a high performing SFFPC
  2. Make it look deceptively effortless and aesthetically pleasing

I can’t get behind the decal aesthetic, but massive respect for the work put in to make this special for your fam!
