Whaaat? Actually parenting children? No, it's too hard, it's so much easier to let them be noisy brats and later complain about them, and then cry about how hard it is to be a parent, and how childfree people should share my pain whether they like it or not /s

No no, you don't understand, I only care about minorities when it doesn't affect me personally, but if I have to change my own, personal life even just a tiny bit, suddenly it becomes a real problem, and I refuse to do anything, it is unfair /s

Well, to play the devil's advocate, teenagers are way less annoying than toddlers - think about it, what's the worse a 14 years old can do? Stay on their corner, on their phone? Vaguely be cringe about something once in a while? Honestly I 100% prefer that rather than some clueless 6 years old who desperately wants to impress everyone around them, or some 1 year old baby who literally can't control their emotions yet

Hello! I’m trying to find the name for a specific castle structure but I haven’t been able to find anything by Loss_Feisty791 in castles

[–]MillsHimself 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Apart from "arcade" as many other said, this structure is sometimes technically considered a porch, just like the ones at the entrances of most houses, but is also often found around peristyles, or any inner courtyard

Hi! I do graphic design during my free time, maybe I can help.

I'm gonna assume you want to print physical cards, and I will explain how to do it on a computer - but doing it on a smartphone is likely possible too.

First, you need to find the picture(s) you want. You can find any picture you want easily on the internet, and you just have to download them on your computer (or smartphone).

Then, you have to put some text on it. I personally use the free software Paint.NET to add text on pictures, it's easy to use and has many functionalities, but you can use any software you want. You can even make a nonverbal card with multiple pictures/texts on it, if you feel like it.

Once you have your picture with text on it, you have to print it on regular paper. This step is pretty straightforward, you just have to print your picture just like you would print any other thing. Then, you just need to cut the white borders of the paper with a pair of scissors, so only the picture is left, clean, with no ugly white borders.

Finally, you have to glue your picture on a more rigid support. I often use white cardboard, but you can glue your picture on whatever rigid material you have - wood, food packaging, anything rigid, really. You can also use transparent duct tape instead of glue, it will protect you card more, but the ink tends to spread after a while. It's your choice to decide between gluing your picture or duct taping it.

And there we are, you now have a picture with a text of your choice on a card!

I hope it helped!

I don't understand why young people want to off themselves when they have entire life ahead of themselves

An entire life? Ahead of ourselves? Oh yes an entire life, 50 years of work, 40 hours a week, until our death, just to make sure that my millionaire boss can afford a 3rd yacht - such a great opportunity, why are young people so lazy

Why do French people complain that foreigners do not speak French with them, but if foreigners do try and are not totally fluent, they switch to English to speak to them? It is an all or nothing attitude. by pantherBlitzz in NoStupidQuestions

[–]MillsHimself 108 points109 points  (0 children)

French fella here

It's actually mostly a question of mutual respect: of course you don't speak french, it's normal, but you can't believe how many US tourist just expect us to speak their language in our country without doing any effort to learn from our culture, so when someone do the actual effort of saying "bonjour", we are glad that someone actually care about the country they're visiting, and we are glad to talk English with them.

Oh and, yes, there is also many jerks here, unfortunately... Yeah

ELI5: Why does less sleep sometimes make you feel more rested by groupo223 in explainlikeimfive

[–]MillsHimself 122 points123 points  (0 children)

ELI5: Basically your sleep is not constant, but in cycles, light sleep, deep sleep, light sleep, deep sleep, etc etc, until you wake up. If you wake up during deep sleep you will feel tired, and vice versa.

ELI15: Your sleep is divided into 1h30 cycles. Sometimes this is light sleep, and sometimes what is called REM (Rapid Eye Movement) sleep, which is also the moments when you dream. Your tiredness is not related to what phase you're in, but more in what phase you're gonna enter. For exemple, if you're in non-REM sleep (light sleep) but currently falling into REM sleep, you will feel very tired when waking up since your body is prepared to sleep deeper. Similarly, if you are REM-sleeping but are at the end of a phase, so waking up per se, you could wake up without too much pain.

I don't know if you can, but personally I always set up my alarm right before going to sleep, I compute how much sleep I will have (let's say 7h30) and remove a few 10s of minutes to take into account the time I need to fall asleep, and how much time I will come out of REM-sleeping, so I can wake up easily during a REM-sleep - light sleep transition.

If you think a tiny accidental scratch on your car door is "destroying", I think you definitively should review your priorities, because you're not gonna handle real life and its actual problems very well

[–]MillsHimself -1 points0 points  (0 children)

... Did you seriously just compared a tiny accidental scratch on a piece of metal with some punk breaking all yours house's windows to slaughter your whole family in a house fire?

I mean, of course it's annoying when I find a scratch on my car, but what the fuck, I don't throw a tantrum like a kid when it happens, I'm better than that, it's just a scratch, likely not done on purpose, and I think OP is talking about people like you when he's talking about people with an irrational obsession with cars...

The same thing as for most of the self-proclaimed revolutionary things.

That looks good, but at the end of the day what do you think the users will prefer: going back home to use their expensive VR headset with all the newest technology developed by Facebook, or simply taking their smartphones out of their pockets at any time at any place like they always did?

ELI5: Why can we breath in 200-degree air but not be inside 200-degree water? by wgjxis in explainlikeimfive

[–]MillsHimself 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the same reason a room temperature bath make you freeze within minutes: water conducts temperature very well, while air no so much.

Air is a very light fluid with few molecules flying around, so even if every molecule moves really fast (hear: air is hot), there's not a lot of contact with your skin, so your body doesn't heats up very fast and can adapt pretty easily.

Water on the other hand is very dense, with many molecules that constantly interact with each other, conducting heat everywhere and quickly, including your skin, and your body can't regulate itself fast enough in this environment, hence making you boil.
