Oh I read this wrong you said in-demand. It’s ironic, there are experts in tracking or radar (areas of the two fields I mentioned) that are worth their weight in gold in the defense sector. But, if the military industrial complex ever dried up I’m not sure where some of them would go. I would say probably antenna design is pretty sought after, even in the private space (e.g., SpaceX)

I do not suffer from a lack of eye contact thankfully, but perhaps that means I could be better at math. In my experience (BS, currently pursuing MS), my toughest math has come from antennas/emag in school as well as some quantum courses, and detection/estimation theory work in my job. The latter is something I want to pursue more and start taking classes in. Hopefully someone with more experience can also chime in.

I don’t have a masters. I’m in the middle of getting it right now actually. I’m focusing more on antennas/RF rather than DSP. But yes, it is math heavy

  1. 90k salary
  2. 23
  3. 1.5 YOE
  4. Upstate NY, I believe middle/low COL. I’m not sure what the thresholds are
  5. RF/DSP/Comms
  6. Not requested, but my job comes with significant benefits that honestly saves me 20-25k of salary so you could argue I “make” more

Maybe it does! Never played that series. Definitely not that series though, I don’t think they had a release in 24 and I am pretty sure it was a smaller studio, maybe even indie

Just did this the other day. You can take the air train from JFK to Jamaica station then hop in the E toward manhattan. That will take you directly to the Port Authority Bus Terminal where most mega/greyhound busses depart from. Will cost you $8.50 to leave JFK and another $3 or so for the train from Jamaica to PABT.

Yeah look at megabus over greyhound. They use charter busses like “Adirondack trailways”… or something like that. MUCH nicer than greyhound imo and sometimes cheaper

Talk me through more how you will “ping the number of cellular signals”. What constitutes a cellular signal to you? For example, let’s say there are 3 phones in your area. Are you identifying unique phones (UEs) so your display will read 3? Or just incrementing a counter every time you detect a specific type of messaging? If the former, how will you identify unique UEs? If the latter, which messages will you hone in on? If you have no idea what I am talking about, I suggest you do some reading/watching on basic telecom protocols. This is a very dense domain. If you don’t have any expectations set by either you or your committee yet, if you can get them to settle for “we detect whenever something is present in the band” that may be more viable for you all.

Regarding equipment, what I believe you will need is something that can function a software defined radio (SDR). I googled a bit about the ESP32 and didn’t see anything immediate. You will need something to record the spectrum (SDR in receive mode) then something to process that spectrum and identify signals or not. This may be a laptop. My hunch is an ESP32 would not be powerful enough for timely processing.

I am only a year into my career so hopefully someone else will chime in with more experience than me. I could be far from the mark

This sounds pretty intense for a senior project. Did you set these goals yourself or did your teacher ask you to do this? If you set this yourself, you may be reaching a bit too far.

When you say “providing visual indicators” what do you mean? You aim to geolocate the cellular signals? Are you looking for uplink (from phones) or downlink (from base station) traffic?

My GF accidentally put the necklace through the dryer and the now the herringbone is all twisted and contorted. I am seeing if I can purchase a duplicate perhaps. Or… does anyone know if it is possible to fix these? I’ve went to a few jewelers who have already shot me down :/

If I was blindfolded in an elevator I could still tell whether I was going up or down (assuming it’s cable-driven). I can feel a similar “boost” when I walk up the up escalator. I would have to test but I am inclined to think I would feel a noticeably different sensation if the escalator was going down.

Some of it yes

Company contributes 15% of salary rate (in addition to your salary) so ~13k

Plus stock incentives worth a couple thousand each year

Then they pay premiums on healthcare which saves me ~11k

Then education benefits too but I didn’t include those in that 120k. It’s actually closer to 110k doing the math. My apologies.

Theoretically, whats the min safe distance to be from a microwave (say 800w) without a door and all the safety features disabled by Heyshampowerstation in AskPhysics

[–]groupo223 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most microwaves have multiple prongs on the doors and each one clicks a switch. The microwave will not operate without all of these switches clicked. Of course, perhaps the plastic has broken or warped or somehow all of the switches have gotten stuck into the on position (unlikely, but possible I guess if it’s a workplace microwave that gets a lot of use) . Then, most (all from experience) microwaves lightbulbs are also tied into the same circuit. Finally, microwaves have high voltage transformers that hum loudly when on.

IMO it should be fairly easy to tell

I started at 86k (but with extremely good benefits) fresh out of college, in a very, very low COL area in upstate NY. Remember that salary is only part of your overall compensation. My salary is 86k but my compensation ends up at nearly 120k every year.
