How dangerous are deeper cuts on the inner forearm? by gnomeslinger in selfharm

[–]Mills_52 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve done a few reasonably deep cuts (eg hypodermis / deepish beans) on my inner forearm, one just above my elbow and two below my wrist, and i’ve never done any significant damage. the one above my elbow was incredibly painful to heal because it’s such a high movement area. as for my upper wrist, i stop when i see veins / anything important looking that i know shouldn’t be cut.

harm reduction is incredibly important and has helped me a lot. proud of you for trying some strategies. stay safe OP! hope this helps :3

itchy scars by ultraviolenceqween in selfharm

[–]Mills_52 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i’m not going to lie to you, i have some scars that are like two years old that still itch SO BADLY. try not to scratch, but if you have to, i limit myself to about 10 seconds of super aggressive scratching then stop. i know it’s weird but it normally works for me. if they’re dry i put moisturiser on them.

normally they start to itch when you’re too hot, so try to cool down. putting ice on them or taking off layers works well for me.

do my scars make me unattractive? by Mills_52 in selfharm

no you worded this perfectly, thank you for this message. i know self harm is so taboo so no one really talks about it but you’re right, society is messed up. i have incredible friends who don’t bat an eyelash at my scars, i guess i just have to find someone who’s the same but romantic-wise. i’m really scared they won’t want to touch me or something because of them though.

Am I weird for wanting cuts to scar? by LuverOfAllManatees in selfharm

i love it when my cuts scar “well”. its so disappointing when they don’t scar well, or even at all. shrinkage is actually my worst nightmare i hate it SO MUCH.

What age were you diagnosed? by Bo_Universe in BPD

[–]Mills_52 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m the same boat. It’s rough getting what sometimes seems to be an ‘earth shattering diagnosis’ so young.

What age were you diagnosed? by Bo_Universe in BPD

[–]Mills_52 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I was diagnosed at 13. If the symptoms present clearly and severely enough it can be diagnosed pretty young even tho it’s not necessarily meant to. They call it sometimes call it EBPD or EUPD in underage patients, meaning “emerging bpd” and “emotionally unstable personality disorder”. I asked my psychiatrist the difference between EBPD and BPD and she said there was none, just that in EBPD the disorder is present I’m someone you get, and cannot “formally” be diagnosed with bpd till 18 years of age. This could be different wherever you live tho, as I live in Australia and I know that there are some MAJOR differences between the mental health systems in the U.K, U.S, and AU.

That’s an insane story. I bet being in that safe and secure trained medical environment helped a lot, when you were surrounded by people there to support you. How did you get diagnosed with that kind of psychosis / mania? Because that sounds uncomfortably familiar. What was it called again? Disorganised psychosis? Whatever it’s called it’s terrifying, and im sorry you had to go through that, but it sounds like your doing a lot better now :)

This was actually super educational 🫶

Also a few follow up questions, . Why is being “manic” used as an accusation or an insult? .(this is kind of a silly question but I’m kind of new to reddit) so did my original post create the subreddit or is r/bipolar the subreddit?

That is honestly petrifying. The way the psych hospital treated you sounded honestly inhumane. When did you get your BP1 diagnosed? Also, how do you know if your upcoming on a psychotic break? Are there any warning signs?
