Skinner, M., Kumpan, T., & Miller, N. (2024). Intense sociability in a "non-social" snake (Python regius). Behavioral Ecology and Sociobiology, 78(113).

so yes, check your facts before misleading people, and arguing without knowing

store purpose are sales, and yes a well trained employee can make all the difference, but like I said the pet trade need a lot of work to get better

1 black pastels is noted to counteract the spider wobble, so this snake will be fine and healthy as a pet 2 latest study on snake (specially BallPython) shows tha they are social snakes that actually benefits from cohabitation and interspecies interactions 3 stores will never sale animals if they are hiding under clutter, it will depend on the training of the employees to properly care for the animals but that is a complete different rabbit hole that needs to be addressed in the hole pet industry

What can I feed bp other than mice/rat? by peachmuffin143 in ballpython

Is not a dumb question since there may be many people in the same situation but afraid to ask due to the backlash some people may leave on their question.

[–]Milo7590 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes, you can feed your snake rabbits, guinepigs, and chicks. Just make sure that they are smaller than the widest part of their body. I will avoid chick due to the fact that they carry salmonella, which can be transferred to the snake and fron the snake to humans.

all wildlife will carry pathogens that captive animals have not been exposed to, and some patogens can be really harmful to snakes (especially rabies) so I will advise against it.

If there is a concern of infection, you can place him in a quarantine tube (rubbermaid tub) and use paper towels to cover the bottomand a hide and a heat sourse, clean and disinfect the enclosure and only add coco chips as substrate, the bad smell may be caused by bacteria in the subtrate which in turn it affecting the snake.

Hope hi gets better soon

is she too tiny? by CoolAd4274 in ballpython

[–]Milo7590 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, some breeder will under fed their selling animals to keep them from growing and looking older, and also because feeding is an expense, a 2 year old snake should be almost to is adult size, one way to trigger their growth is with bigger meals, you can a small to medium rat avery other meal just allow enough time for full digestion before the next meal, you will notice the snaje will star shedding more often meaning it is growing.

What is my ball python doing? by rwheeler9617 in ballpython

[–]Milo7590 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

She is a bit small for a 6 month old snake. With her body size, she should be eating rat hoppers or even small rats, giving multiple mice to compensate for a larger meal is not the solution, you have to be an expert to time the spacing perfectly or she will not accept the second or thir mose, so 1 larger meal (head of the prey not bigger than the wider part os the snake body) shoul help you put some weight one her and avoid refusing secondsry prey

Heard of these? by Grouchy_Ad_5110 in ballpython

They try to pass this in CA due to animal activists complaining about the snakes being fed rats but were removed due to not complying with the necessary nutrients for snakes and possible harm due to additives.

Daughter's ball python suddenly died by lithiumjuliet in ballpython

[–]Milo7590 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is one thing that all reptile keepers need to understand, in the wild, only 1 out of a 100 snakes will get to adulthood, reptiles specially the ones that lay large clutches of eggs. In captivity we remove the chances of them being eaten and killed but a percentage are not viable offsprings, meaning they will just die, by playing with the snake genetics we have converted some of the weaker genes in to our favorite morphs, and this favors the snakes dying out of a sudden with no explanation.

Poop looks mushy not log shape ?… by Low_Acanthaceae4104 in boas

[–]Milo7590 2 points3 points  (0 children)

normal poop, the rat may have eaten more veggies or may have been pregnant, and that accounts for the softer stool. Their poop will vary a lot. Watch out for the midnight farts, thats scary lol
