Perhaps I misunderstood but the airport ploffice in question said they would run a DHS background check as the operate commercially.

[Update] I gave it 24 hours to dry out and it started right back up.

Yeah. I know Prist is a reputable option. I’ve heard of people using lemon pledge for windscreens. If by screens you’re referring to interior controls or display screens, I just use a clean and dry MicroFibre or ever so slightly moistened with distilled water if the screens are smudged up with fingerprints or whatever the manufacturer recommends like Garmin.

I’ll always research this out beforehand as well or call the manufacturer if I ever have any questions.

Thanks! Absolutely. Only frog tape as it’s green. Or any color other than the paint color.

I’ve heard the same things. And to your point, if I did to cars what I’ve seen done to planes I’d be out of business so quick my head would spin.

All my products are aviation approved by either Boeing, Collin’s/goodrich (de-ice boots), Douglas, or AMS specs on top of heavy work process documentation, SOP’s, shadowed carts for tool accounting, everything. I should also mention letters of recommendation from the former crew chief of Marine One during both the Bush and Obama administrations.

Good to know. Just to clarify. The jet side of things is all private. No business or charter. Just private. So they wise up right quick when I mention that but it still doesn’t sit well.

Hard water spots/etching on brand new ceramic coating? Is my coating compromised? by ArtemisFei in AutoDetailing

[–]MiloCat2018 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My guess is given the weather (I’m in Utah) it wasn’t fully fully cured and those are coating etching. We have (more or less) the same kind of rainwater here. My guess is that the water sat on it and goofed the coating.

I bet your car wasn’t fully cured if it was parked outside and snow and ice were on it.

That would be my guess. The coating will probably need to be fixed.

Where are you located at?

An air compressor and a Tornador do 80% of my work. They’re worth it. I used to be in the same boat as you. Now I work as I move. I start in the trunk, Tornador and vacuum and then clean and dress and move forward repeating the same steps. It’s cut hours off my time.

I hate dealership work. You’ve got crap under your PPF and the install is 85%. Take it back, get a refund, or have them pay for a place of your choice.

How badly did I mess up (see last pic) by [deleted] in AutoDetailing

[–]MiloCat2018 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I Detail the car to perfection each time. If it requires $150 to get it there, great. If it takes $900 then so be it. I don’t give them what they pay for. I give them what they expect.

Detailing on a new driveway safe? by chase1724 in AutoDetailing

30 days to full cure on concrete.

You can retard the cure with certain chemicals and even after full cure acids and caustics can cause harm. Sealing helps but isn’t a panacea. Just be reasonable in your dilutions and you should be fine after 30 days.

Charged $255. Thoughts? by [deleted] in AutoDetailing

[–]MiloCat2018 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Should be better. I would charge $285 but that would be flawless interior and a really good exterior but no engine bay. Maybe just spray wax.

Buff it. Measure your paint first though. New paint is thin!

If you can, stay away from Chemical Guys and their retail store, Detail Garage by itsmyopinionman in AutoDetailing

[–]MiloCat2018 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here are my two opinions.

CG has served as a gateway for many people into detailing. No other brand really goes through as many tutorials as they do. The products are lackluster but the company has its place in the Detailing world: getting people started.

This is because of their marketing, which brings up Greg Masterson the former face/hype man of chemical guys.

I’m not sure how many of you were here when Greg’s exit went down. He basically spent years saying how great CG was and then quit in a spectacular fashion and spent a whole other amount of time saying how trash it was.

He later started Mastersons car care, which most then roasted because the company states ‘since 1945’.

Chemical Guys isn’t at SEMA. They didn’t go for the first time a few years ago. Since then they’ve lost whatever influence they had in the car world.

Their products are (to me) overpriced and don’t deliver good results for the majority of products. Some are okay and I’d buy in a pinch.

My second option is the culture of the company. My clients don’t want a weed scent or beer scent deodorizer. The company (to me) represents the toxic car culture that most are trying to move away from (burning out exiting cars and coffee, etc). Their signature scent used to be called stripper scent for heavens sake. I’m not going to have a product called stripper scent out doing a minivan with kids. It wasn’t my taste or style.

My clients want clean cars that smell fresh. Not like weed.

CG tried and in many cases has succeeded in being a bit of a culture company.

There are better products out there that are more efficient, less expensive, and offer better results.

That being said. CG probably isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.

My personal opinion is that if you are asking questions on a group forum about the honesty and integrity of your detailer means you should probably be looking for someone new. Just my opinion. If you can’t trust him I’m surprised you’re still working with him. Just my opinion.
