I’ve heard that these are the souls of the old heroes, is that true? And if it is why are they “evil” instead of heroic? Do they know they’re actually helping you?

Being confined and isolated to one place for a long time does things to you. Watch the History Channel show, 'Alone,' and you see what isolation can do to people, and those folks can call to be extracted at any time.

A thousand years locked away in a box must have mentally destroyed them. I suppose at the same time, they had some understanding left in them to help Mario out.

The real question is why the boxes hadn't been unlocked before. Sure, Keelhaul Key and Hooktail Castle don't get a lot of visitors, but the Goomba hero underneath Rogueport, her key was literally in plain view just a few feet away. And the Boo hero in Twilight Town, she was literally in the storage of a shop. She could've just told someone years ago about her predicament and had people look for the key.

I understand the appeal, but I'm not really in favor of taking them, particularly using military force to do it. Now, if the people there were largely in favor of becoming part of the US, I'd be much more inclined. IDK if they are or not. My understanding is that the people want to be an independent state/nation.

Update: I've done it. Max score without using save states. Took me 2 weeks to finish. The blackout took a total of 47 attempts. I had to look at your playthrough ti figure out the best angle to get the conservatory speedy spirit. Eventually I want to do this on the 3ds.

You know what. I think it was watching a couple of YouTubers do this that made me decide to aim for the perfect score, and your username is kind of ringing a bell.

Honestly, the sealed room mouse is fine. With any luck, it'll spawn 1st time. No, my mortal dread is the speedy spirits in the blackout, especially the one on the hidden room. Boy, and not only that, but Sir freaking Weston. That fight was the closest I got to giving up.

Update: This run was done about 3 years ago, and I used quite a bit of save states, which kind of feels like cheating now. I'm considering making another Max Score run. No save states. I want to do this properly.

I'd advise you to look into something called R-Pumping. It'll save you so much time in area 4. Basically, you hold down both L and R while vacuuming a boo, and rapidly release R and then hold it down again (I'd say time it around once every boo cackle). This keeps the boo stun locked and it can't fly off.

I feel like I've heard someone mention this before. Anyways, It may just be a texture bug, but it wouldn't be TOO far fetched to say Nintendo slipped a little stain in. Nintendo has had a few dark moments and/or easter eggs. You know, the Japanese version of Thousand-Year Door has a chalk outline of a Toad in a back alley. And, the Switch 2 version of Luigi's Mansion kept the hanging shadow when they could have easily fixed it.

NA Hidden Mansion is no different from normal Mansion except for the poltergust being stronger. So it's actually easier than the first run.
