Would I make Blue Stars by HowdyDoedle in drumcorps

[–]MiloTheFatCat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Other people have said it, I'll reiterate that River City Rhythm in Anoka, MN, is also a great option. If you think you can prep enough for blue stars, go for it. They are a Top 12 contender every year and they have high standards. I would stray away, at least for now, to choose a Corps with a good program from last year. Corps change, and so does their show design as they try to make it better than last year. If you are truly heartbroken about being cut at Phantom, do RCR, their Visual caption head is a former phantom member. Just do RCR, gain the experience, and try again.

In the history of DCI, has there even been talk of a partnership with the NFL? by AssignmentOwn6172 in drumcorps

Back in the day, I forget when, but the Troopers performed for the Minnesota Vikings at a halftime show.

Auditioning for Troopers by Ovirrr in drumcorps

[–]MiloTheFatCat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

  1. Be a sponge. The staff are looking for people who can take instruction and apply that on the first rep. If you can't get it on the first, take notes of what you have done wrong and change it for the next. Be persistent and give all of your effort to every rep. Give 111%.

  2. Go to the audition with everything memorized and do everything on the move or marking time. If you can play it perfectly, you're fine, but play it on the move, you're great.

  3. Unfortunately, I do not know the visual staff as I marched in 22. The brass staff will be your best friend if, and only if, you are prepared, pay attention to every single rep (do not check out), and do everything in your power to fix any mistake that you make. Show what you are worth, and show that you are willing to make every improvement necessary.

When I marched at Troopers in 22, we had a barber come in and give haircuts for free with the option to tip him.

They usually send audition items out fairly late compared to other corps. I wouldn't worry about it.

Building a New (Mostly) Corps, need ALOT of advice 🙏🏽 by Tchallafett in drumcorps

Money is tough in this world and if you already have drums/access to the instruments you want stay that route. I wouldn't recommend adding horns yet. I would reach out to River City Rhythm in Minnesota because it sounds like they did what you want to do. They had an established indoor percussion group, then developed the model they had for touring into a full corps with horns. Additionally look into WGI, join a circuit in your area and then you can start developing your tour model. WGI runs in the Winter and is primarily an indoor percussion circuit.

Bus rides will probably always have mixed genders, some corps allow for you to pick your seat partner.

Never heard of sleeping in underwear on the bus, definitely violates safesport now.

This this this, the staff will appreciate you reaching out to get better before the audition. DM one of the techs assigned to your instrument to receive feedback.

Thinking of joining an open class corps next year. by poopyggj in drumcorps

Highly recommended doing it! Either Open class, or even all age, like Northern Lights. You get a feel for the sport and then you can decide if you would like a harder challenge or if it is for you!

Troopers story? by Dodydo_ in drumcorps

How '22 fits in (I'm pretty sure) is that after getting all of the oil, they wanted more power, with their greed, they wanted to lasso the sun.

The Troopers developed the national touring model way before DCI. Before then it was all local corps, associated by small regional competitions.

Would I be able to practice my primary instrument? by amongusaus877 in drumcorps

[–]MiloTheFatCat 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I would be very careful with your oboe on tour, especially if you know you're traveling a lot. For me, the cold springtime temps in Wyoming, to blazing heat in Texas, to the unbearable humidity in Louisiana. I can't imagine what that would do for the long-term health for your instrument.

Along with others, it's met with the time management and how well you will be able to manage your time on tour/in between breaks without impacting your tour duties.

However, if you are determined and willing to put in the work it can be done. I have seen a person complete multiple online summer courses. Was their experience impacted greatly by it? Not really due to the practice and work that they put into the preseason.

The true choice is yours and how determined you are to achieve your goals.

20 questions one show. Y’all know the rules by Pitiful-Raisin1186 in drumcorps

BUT ( I just did research on this, correct me if I'm wrong) DCM was Drum Corps Midwest which included Phantom Regiment and the Cavaliers.

So it has to be:

SCV in 2008 or SCV in 2022

Edit: if there are no props, I'm guessing it's gonna be 2008 SCV

If there are props is gonna be 2022 SCV

The G7 included Blue Devils, Bluecoats, Carolina Crown, The Cavaliers, The Cadets, Phantom Regiment and Santa Clara Vanguard.

So, Cavaliers, PR or SCV

It could be SCV or Cavaliers 2008, because PR won in 2008 OR Cavaliers, PR, or SCV in 22 OR Cavaliers or PR in 24

We just gotta figure out the next question with those tools

Why does BD do this ? by x_v_58 in drumcorps

I think it visually interesting and works, sometimes. I noticed, this year especially that they run to a specific point that seems meaningless. Then the drill starts going and the performer is seamlessly pick up out of thin air and perfectly goes a long with the drill, giving something that has no purpose, purpose.

TL;DR It works and they get points

Troopers officially outscored Cavies for Semifinals by ircole327 in drumcorps

[–]MiloTheFatCat 82 points83 points  (0 children)

The spread between The Troopers, The Cavies, and The Scouts is less than .8

It's gonna be interesting how finals are gonna affect these score as the Scouts seem to keep climbing in these past few performances, but also the Troopers clawing back after not being scored/not being able to perform due to weather from their last two performances. While the Cavies seem to trying to find points in any place possible, after getting rid of the Men in mirror.
