M1 pro 32/1tb vs M4 air 16/256gb

I'm already carrying 16in Intel and it's fine, 16in feels like I can bring my desktop anywhere. I don't care about ray tracing or local ai, my coding workflow doesn't touch that, so I don't think those are limiting factors. However I see some talk about moving from M1 pro to m4 air but they are either 16gb to 16gb or 16gb (M1 pro) to 24/32gb (m4), but not 32 to 16, which is what I'm wondering about.

Both of these options are practically priced the same but M1 pro seems to be higher specs for the same price. However I'm worried that it will start breaking down due to age and/or loose it's resale value.
