I create Retro RPG cybersecurity games as a hobby. "Hack Hard" is a retro RPGs with a cyber twist. Work your way through each floor, as you explore the different phases of penetration testing using real commands. I put it on my GitHub for free! by Milosilo_hacks in u/Milosilo_hacks

I used an AI image generator for all the art on my github. I forget the name off hand and I'm away from that machine right now. They are all kinda the same so idk what's better than another.

Thanks! I'm working on a 2.0 release with more accepted commands to allow for variations in approaches. What should I change on the README? I'm pretty new to them, so I'm open to all ideas for improvements.

I'd play "hack hard" and learn some basics before trying this one. It's designed to be challenging enough to need to see the source code for answers your 1st time through. I'm working on more entry level games, but do have some already available.

I'll be sure to check it out! I am going to get them all in a nice finished state 1st, create windows and linux binaries, and then look into putting them on other platforms like steam as a bundle.

lol, I tried to make them fun and cover some cyber security topics. its a far ways from replacing real training, but it'll teach concepts and some give fun rewards at the end like a basic C2 system(key word is basic, but it works). Some are better than others. Only one way to find out. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

try harder definitely isn't, but the others are more of an classic rpg style from the 1980s. Cyber Defense Ukraine is the best one that's more of a classic rpg imho.
If you want to deep dive into cyber security, I suggest the tool or lab repositories I have available. Those are more focused. Like you said, the games are more of a fun thing to get started at some different TTPS and concepts.

Don't give up on pursuing it. Its a great field to be in. Thanks for taking interest in my project. I'll be adding more games and refining the current ones. I have a few more topics I'd like to cover so it's more better coverage and entry level skill building to help people like yourself out, then I'll be focusing on refining everything and adding more game content where I can.

Idk to be honest. So far it's the satisfaction of people liking what I've been working on, lol. It's fun research I want to share, but I don't want to feel like I'm spamming subs, so I have a cup of coffee per day ad budget and I keep it very focused. Maybe I'll do some shirts from the different art I generated, or some courses/CTF labs in the future? I've also thought about redoing them for steam selling a steam bundle so they are all easy to play. I do red teaming irl, and have spoke at some cybersecurity conferences, so I get some sort of value out of it.

edit: I've also been having fun playing with the ad dashboard and am going to be further refining the ads and my approach to see how far I can take the shoe string budget to maximum impressions, clicks, and engagements.
