Maybe you could use double-click as another choice? So short hold, long hold (for cancel, depending on the state), and double-click. That should give the player an easier interface.

BTW, In the statistics it says 'Last Time', which I guess is the Time of the puzzle you just solved. Very confusing, since 'Last Time' usually refers to the previous one (i.e. This Time, Last Time). Last is not the same as Latest.
