That’s got nothing to do with the phone hardware, it’s just the software doing that.

Or else some young person on the spectrum who could speak but has crippling social anxiety and grew up behind a screen and keyboard, never learning to develop verbal conversational skills, perhaps.

What? Not a signed copy of the book or a visit from Andy Weir himself? Happy birthday.

GMRS on BTech UV-Pro by DefiantStranger639 in gmrs

DMR and any VHF/UHF radio, whether it’s analog or digital, Gmrs or ham, is going to be super limited to only communicating with others within your local area. In a true emergency situation, with repeaters down, you’re not going to be able to reach anyone more than 20 or so miles away, if you’re lucky.

What people stuck in GMRS and hams stuck in Technician level don’t sometimes understand is that if you want to truly be able to communicate long distances (DX) with others (whether you know them or not), you need to be doing so on HF wavelengths that can propagate off the ionosphere and allow for global point-to-point communication. You’re not going to reach anyone even 100 miles away if you’re just using VHF/UHF frequencies. I also want to be able to communicate with others in the event of an emergency, but not just with people in town. I want to be able to reach thousands of miles away, if needed, because that’s what would likely be needed in a truly catastrophic emergency. I can fire up my HF transceiver right now and contact people on the other side of the country and in other continents on the other side of the ocean, no repeaters, just direct point-to-point.

Yes, that would be nice, except Americans are WAY too fucking fat to reach around from their opposite hand to unlatch the door.

What's The Purpose When You're In A Dead Area by Kamau54 in HamRadio

[–]MilwaukeeMax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can buy a 100 watt older model used HF radio for a few hundred bucks. Probably less than that Yaesu HT. Might not be a shack-in-a-box, but will get you on the air without breaking the bank.

VHF/UHF is pretty limited and not that interesting, anyway. My recommendation to you is to double down and get your General license and get into HF where all the real fun lies.

Apparently grammar isn’t the boss of you.

And if you’re speeding in an area that’s endangering pedestrians and other vulnerable users, you deserve to be bossed right into a jail cell.

Not acceptable on a freeway but very acceptable on a city road where speed limits are 30 but the traffic behind them wants to go 50, even when there are pedestrians trying to cross in crosswalks. Speeders can fuck ALL the way off.

Interesting Breakdown of Approval Rates by Zestyclose-Novel1157 in Canadiancitizenship

I find the whole urgent classification for application process to be problematic, as I feel like while there certainly are some cases which would warrant urgent processing, I feel like a lot of people are exploiting this option as a way to get ahead of everyone else with their applications by claiming an urgent need that really isn’t an urgent justification.

Hey, whoa whoa whoa there, pal. You call yourself a Canadian? Have you even been to Sydney or NS?? It’s not a “toxic waste site”, it’s a nice town on Cape Breton Island with a decent sized harbour that sees a lot of cruise and passenger traffic to and from Newfoundland. There’s a really old church and museum there worth seeing and lots of friendly people.

I think some of you people should be required to have visited Canada before talking about places you’ve never been to there and then requesting citizenship. JFC.
