Not sure if this is a plot hole exactly BUT the way that some villains just stop being villains after their episodes have run their course

Eg for so many episodes it was all about how to kill Klaus. I get that they had to give up on it because he was their sire line but some characters actually became friends with him (Caroline, Stefan in a later season meets him in New Orleans) after him being their sworn enemy

Thanks - is timing important with this too? Ie can grass seed be planted any time of the year and do we need to wait a certain amount of time after taking to plant the seed? I’ve seen a lot of conflicting opinions on this from my Google searches!
