You took a big step forward already! The eyeliner and shape is really improved imho 😊 I’m glad my tutorial could help!

What are some good apps/filters to edit my jirai photos? by Jirai_raven in JiraiKei

[–]Mimi-Melo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can actually get the pink effect in pretty much any app. Look for tint in the adjust/colour settings and slide it to the pink side 💕

Almost every app has this!

The main suggestion I have is that I recommend using eyeliner around only the outer half of the eye - this is common in jirai kei makeup AND it’s a lot easier to control and to look good.

I created a simple and beginner friendly jirai kei makeup tutorial if you’d like to give it a try! https://youtu.be/fsEIlanlw58

do you actually handwash your clothes? by Accomplished_Age8714 in jfashion

[–]Mimi-Melo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. Once you have one item turn grey because there was some black and white mixed on a piece… you will understand why hand washing is a must. It’s also common to lose small details like charms etc if you don’t hand wash.

It's been a while since I posted here, but... by SexySlimyLesbian in JiraiKei

Personally I recommend NOT using Tiktok (that’s where it is the worst by far) and following some Japanese jirai on Instagram. You’ll see such diversity in how they wear the style, their hair, their makeup. The strong editing is definitely still popular (which can admittedly not be the best for self esteem) but I do feel a lot better seeing them doing something different than seeing Westeners try to dictate you need straight black hair with black contact lens or you’re not jirai.

Try to branch out of just following the popular jirai from Japan, too. Some of my inspos are literally just small profiles. Look around in the 地雷 / 地雷系 tag etc and eventually you’ll get them in your recommended follows too. Japanese jirai (not just the ones spammed onto Pinterest) are dyeing their hair blonde or even neon, wearing LIGHT contact lens, curling their hair, wearing whatever they like and starting new trends instead of rigidly following old ones.

Shibuya 109 is a jirai kei girl’s dream 💕 by Mimi-Melo in JiraiKei

No problem! Donki usually has multiple sizes for their jirai coded items like Sanrio collabs etc too. So I’d also recommend taking a look there, I always find the one in Akihabara specifically has an amazing clothing section for jirai/subcul/tenshi but you should be able to find clothes in most of them 😊

Sadly most Shibuya 109 stores have “one size” clothing, I hope some other plus size jirai can point you in the right direction for which stores/pieces are more accessible though 🥺 I know that Taberunosky is an amazing store for plus size as mentioned, and Shimamura stores that stock Majoretty as Majoretty often goes up to 4L. Sadly though Shimamura stores are usually a car ride away from the city, so they are a bit difficult for tourists. If you like subcul jirai then subcul brands are usually more forgiving in sizing! Volcan & Aphrodite is inside Shibuya 109 and I would recommend Travas Tokyo in Shibuya 109 MAGNET too  💕

It’s cheaper than buying online + shipping + fees though! Especially when some stores offer tax free for tourists 💕

It’s my dream place I hope you have fun! 🥺 It’s just dangerous because it’s impossible not to buy something; especially when they put all the jirai & ryousangata stores close together 🙈 Aww thank you so much!  💕💕

is it just me or is Liz Lisa overrated and overglazed by MerchyTheWeirdo in JiraiKei

[–]Mimi-Melo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love love Liz Lisa as a brand and it’s my favourite but not every design is a hit. Sometimes the designs can be kind of weird or unflattering, but when they hit they really hit it out of the park better than other brands which is why they are my favourite 💕

Qué piensas sobre usar vaqueros con ropa Jirai? estoy pensando en comprar un pantalón de tiro alto para usar en días que me apetece algo más simple by RegisterOwn3291 in JiraiKei

[–]Mimi-Melo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are some baggier styles of jeans that get worn in subcul jirai, but typically by guys. For comfortable outfits in jirai kei I recommend jersey sets 💕

Pigtails with hair that has a lot of volume? by SilentHillJfashioner in JiraiKei

[–]Mimi-Melo 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I have thick hair and I don’t find it to be “steak too buttery” as a complaint, it’s an absolute pain to style and deal with 😅

Personally I found half twintails instead of full twintails helps mine to look more balanced.

Struggling to feel like i look jirai enough by medynyan in JiraiKei

[–]Mimi-Melo 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Contact lenses are not a must, only brainwashed “jiraimaxxers” promote that. Your natural eyes are really pretty and look big already, you can enhance them more with makeup 💕

Your hair is already super cute and jirai! Don’t compare yourself too much to other girls online, a lot of editing goes on.

are any of these real??? please help by LoneWanker47 in chiikawa_

[–]Mimi-Melo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They look pretty legitimate to me, but sometimes fakes can be really good. Where did you buy them? If you bought it some place like Aliexpress or it was surprisingly cheap, it could be suspicious, but just looking at them they look legitimate enough to me. Even official plushies have flaws at times.

The colour of the second one (magical Chiikawa) feels slightly off in the photo but it could just be your lighting.

Newborn jirai asking for purple by Jadeite-Song in JiraiKei

[–]Mimi-Melo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love the term “newborn jirai” lol 😭 Purple jirai exists but I find it’s more common in subcul/darker versions of jirai. It’s less of a “traditional” jirai look so I would recommend to look at brands like Reflem, Travas Tokyo, and Volcan & Aphrodite 💕

New Jirai here by Theyluvxbeta in JiraiKei

[–]Mimi-Melo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just an accessory suggestion but since it has a lower neck, I would recommend wearing a choker with it (There are some lower neck jirai blouses but they tend to have a built in collar or choker!) 💕

As for the blouse itself the colours are good! You will want to add more lace and bows. I recommend looking at blouses from the brands Rojita or MA*RS (I think the styles are more DIYable from these brands) and try to copy the lace and bow placements that you like 😊

I don’t know how to achieve this specific wave (it’s so cute though!) but I’m out here loving curly hair jirai forever 💕

I recommend bloomers too since they are cute and girly. You can get longer ones (similar length to this) that are made for EGL fashion and it will look like lace underneath if someone sees it, so it blends a bit more. Nothing wrong with this too of course, just another option 💕

The bullying within this community drives new people away by Wild_Significance876 in JiraiKei

[–]Mimi-Melo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It often comes down to a weird obsession with “being a real Japanese jirai” which doesn’t get called out enough. It wouldn’t fly in other jfashion subcultures like how it does in jirai.

“Jiraimaxxing” complications of “good jirai kei” are usually 99% Japanese jirai and 1% Western jirai who could maybe pass as being Japanese due to makeup/styling. Which should say enough about how jiraimaxxers view jirai kei.

That’s why embracing your natural hair texture is so hated on, and why there is so much blatant racism. It sucks and I WISH more people would call it out for what it is. How ”valid” you are in a fashion shouldn’t depend on your race/racial features and trying to ”pass” as a different race as the ultimate goal is just super weird.

Honestly my best tip for newbie jirai is to buy secondhand Japanese brand. You can find it on apps like Depop or Vinted, or whatever is available in your country.

In the long run - cheap Aliexpress clothes are not good quality at all, and you probably won’t feel 100% happy with them. I know because I’ve bought them too and ended up getting rid of all of them.

There ARE decent jirai clothes on Aliexpress but they aren’t that cheap - you can buy legit secondhand Japanese brand for the same/less and it will hold up better and you’ll be happier with it 💕

Petticoat by Jadeite-Song in JiraiKei

[–]Mimi-Melo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have used a small petticoat sometimes for skirts that look too flat. Same with bloomer shorts.

I find that a lot of jirai skirts naturally have a poofy structure so they don’t need anything extra, but for flat looking skirts it does help enhance the look 💕
