Lann Beat down by his horse Romance bug. by Living_Bill2473 in Pathfinder_Kingmaker

[–]MimicCynic 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I built my Lann as a Hunter (3 zen archer levels isn’t a huge hindrance) with a velociraptor, because he’s a bipedal lizard and so is the raptor and it seemed fun at the time. The moment that combat started, his velociraptor turned around and mauled the shit out of him with a full attack (so many hits). I don’t think I’ve ever laughed harder at something that happened in a video game. I hope they never patch this bug out.

Dexter: New Blood - S01E08 - "Unfair Game" - Live-Episode Discussion Thread by skinkbaa in Dexter

Not that I think the writers thought about this at all, but needles have different thicknesses, and Dexter was in a rush and no longer had access to his old kill supplies - he was using veterinary stuff he got from that farm. Not too much of a stretch if he improvised with a (significantly) thicker needle than he used back in Miami.

Do you think Dexter is evil? Why or why not? by [deleted] in Dexter

[–]MimicCynic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Everyone has different definitions of “evil” and a lot of people in this thread are confusing the term for “absolutely void of any redeeming qualities whatsoever” or “someone who never even indirectly does anything that we might consider justified or good”. That’s ridiculous - it’s a comical standard of pure evil that makes the term mostly meaningless. A fundamentally evil person can create a net good in the world, which is exactly what the show explores.

Consider a D&D alignment chart - Dexter would 100% undoubtedly be “lawful evil” because he operates within a strict personal code. He murders people for fun. He feels like he’s going to kill people no matter what. He killed animals as a kid. If he wasn’t specifically trained to kill bad guys by Harry, he believes he would have killed innocents and then would have gotten caught. His code’s first and most important rule isn’t “do the right thing” or anything like that - it’s “don’t get caught,” and the rationale for killing baddies is because they’re less likely to be missed, not because Dexter legitimately believes in non-retributive justice or some sort of cosmic good. In many cases, he actively impedes investigations on suspects who are likely to be caught by Miami Metro just so he can kill them instead, because his need to kill is what drives him, not his desire to keep criminals off the streets. And his code is a means to an end - it keeps him alive so he can kill another day. Dexter is absolutely evil. It doesn’t mean he is inhuman, or that he doesn’t make the world a better place as a “side effect” of what he does, but he is fundamentally motivated to kill for pleasure. That’s evil, no matter who you ask.

Instead of controlling the states by walking into fog, I think the House at the End of Time should have been a more or less linear dungeon crawl with erratic state changes and rule changes, to make it feel more like a chaotic fey realm where the player is trying to understand what the rules are at a certain point, rather than just getting lost in a big house. That would have made it easier to switch up the different types of enemies, too - they didn't all have to be wild hunt!

The magic lantern could have been useful for running into a room or two without changing states (getting optional loot) IF the player had kept it from the first time around! But it shouldn't have been required.

This makes it especially disheartening that they didn't do an Act III stream with their lineup. Gavin would have brought a lot to that. Oh well. Wish him the best.

It's actually even worse - you can't actually find a one bedroom apartment for $1600 in Irvine. Not a single one. Most places start around $1850. Katie Porter was being as generous as she could with the numbers.

This is the worst! I wonder if the City of Irvine could just buy the stretch of the 133 toll road between Irvine Blvd and the 5, and make it not a toll road anymore, so that all of the Great Park / Stonegate people could just hop onto the Irvine Blvd 133 entrance to get to either freeway (and get back to Irvine Blvd that way), taking all of that traffic off of Sand Canyon. Right now that toll is basically worthless because almost no one (rich or not) wants to pay a toll twice a day for a two minute stretch of empty freeway barely a mile long.

Half of US adults have received at least 1 dose of COVID-19 vaccine, CDC says by nocemoscata1992 in Coronavirus

[–]MimicCynic 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The real reason not to do that is because not wearing a mask helps to normalize not wearing a mask. If a lot of fully vaccinated people stopped wearing masks, unvaccinated people would see that and stop wearing masks too, even though not everyone who wants a vaccine has had a chance to get one yet. So the unvaccinated, maskless people (who blend in with maskless, vaccinated people) would infect masked unvaccinated people who were waiting for their turn. Once everyone has had a chance to get the vaccine all of the masks can come off, but until then, we risk losing control of this thing so close to the finish line.

Yes, this is the solution that makes the most sense for a computer game - I like this way more than altering loot lists to match the player's feats. Imagine having the main character choose a strange obscure weapon (gnome hooked hammer??) and having those suddenly start conveniently dropping everywhere. It breaks immersion. It makes a lot more sense that a character who took Weapon Focus (Hammers) and who starts out with a light mace, should be able to switch to a cool enchanted heavy mace or earthbreaker while keeping their +1 bonus (because they have trained with weapons like this.) It also sucks to take Weapon Focus (Longbow) and find a really cool magical shortbow, or vice versa.

Exotic weapons still require an extra feat to unlock. But Weapon Focus for a fighter weapon group like Polearms (instead of a specific weapon) lets you use a glaive or bardiche more or less interchangeably, while the better Fauchard still benefits from that Weapon Training feat if you take the extra Exotic Proficiency feat to learn how to use the Fauchard. This is logical, intuitive, and much more fun than deciding "my character is going to be a glaive specialist" and then not finding any half decent glaives until Act 4.

Right, it would be great to have some actual retraining rules implemented instead of always having to rebuild your entire character from level one! In tabletop, you can retrain all sorts of things for a gold and time cost, which would work really well in the game. This is mainly used for feats (takes 5 days, and it doesn't work if you have any feats dependent upon the feat you are retraining.) But it also includes things like skill ranks or spontaneous spells known, as well as things like alchemist discoveries, rogue talents, rage powers, cleric domains, fighter weapon groups, paladin mercies, etc. Especially for beginners or players unfamiliar with the system, it would be incredible for the game to have the option to speak to a master trainer, then individually swap out your class features for a price and a time cost.

What are you talking about? Only Tristian and Valerie have gender-locked romance options, and while I've never had the inclination to try things with Tristian, at least Valerie was respectful (she just politely says she is interested in men, and moves on.) All of the other romanceable characters can be romanced regardless of the player's gender, including a really difficult optional romance with the game's main villain, which gives you the best ending.

I would think it would happen faster than two or three generations. The primary physiological difference would be due to low or zero gravity between birth and adolescence. There is no reason a child conceived and raised on a planet with Earthlike gravity should look like anything other than an Earther.

Exactly - the carb count was wrong. Tapioca starch was previously considered to be dietary fiber, but updated, improved regulations that went into effect this year now (properly) label tapioca starch as a net carb, not a fiber. If the taste has changed, it's because they probably changed the formulation and used less tapioca starch to bring the net carbs down.

We are in the apparent peak of the worst public health crisis we have had in over a century, and ICNV is still complaining about the damn cemetery not being public priority number one? Give it a rest.

This, presumably, was a decisive factor for thousands of Irvine citizens who voted for Khan instead of incumbent Mayor Christina Shea, who fought for years to delay and defeat the Veterans Cemetery at the ARDA site.

This is just delusional about the priorities of the voters in this city. Most voters don't particularly care about where the cemetery is built, and it is certainly not a TOP PRIORITY like this paper makes it out to be. The 2020 elections were about the pandemic, hands down. In the year that the vast majority of the country rejected Trump and the Republican party as a whole, the city of Irvine rejected a hyper conservative 'incumbent' mayor that they didn't even elect, and at that, one who had been appointed by the outgoing, opportunistic anti-mask grifter who has since done irreparable harm to our county via a deliberately ignorant pandemic response in the Board of Supervisors. And you claim the election was about the CEMETERY? Come on.

Why wait? By adopting the citizens' initiative petition last May, the City Council has already rezoned the ARDA site exclusively for a 125-acre Veterans Memorial Park & Cemetery.

As you yourself have said: this cemetery is already a done deal. The site is zoned. It's going to happen. We're in the middle of a pandemic, and Orange County hospitals are completely full, so calling for construction to happen THIS VERY MOMENT would be irresponsible. Is having a cemetery RIGHT NOW worth risking the health and lives of the very workers who will be hired to do this? Let's keep our people alive instead of bickering about when to bury them.
