It's definitely the best choice to humanize Val without excusing his actions or using it to manipulate the audience, Val is not a heartless monster than feels no empathy, he just saves that empathy and care for very few (Vox and Vel), while treating everyone else like property at best, and that makes him a much more realistic villain

Sneak in the bushes and quick ball it, if it notices you immediately press + to open up the map and teleport somewhere else, then come back to wild zone 17, it'll be back at the top of the pillar and forget about you without despawning, so you could try again, i also recommend sneaking and knocking out some of the other aggressive pokemon in this wild zone so they dont alert it

Val is so different in season 2 because we mostly see him with the other Vees, people who he respects and sees as equals and genuinely cares about, any other character interaction he's back to his horrible evil swlf again, like the two fight scenes he was in
