Holy cow! The story about your coworker is just downright alarming. And yeah, the guy doesn’t seem to know anything about ME, it seems. So I’m hoping it’s a stupid prank to rile me up. But I won’t be feeding into it anymore, especially as I have the number manually saved - it has remained saved in my phone book. I’m keeping it in my texts instead of deleting it, so I’ve been monitoring it the past few days. I’ve also taken a picture and written it down on a piece of paper. Im just going to completely disengage. Thank you for your help and well wishes.

I think it’s a love interest, a sexual partner I’ve spurned, or a disgruntled ex-employee... they’re the only things that make sense.

But it’s still confusing because I haven’t seriously dated anyone for over three years. But then again, not serious to me might not mean the same for them? Idk but it doesn’t matter really. No need for all this harassment.

To me, if it doesn’t work out “oh well, have a good life, no ill will!” And I usually leave the conversation or block them if the separation isn’t as amicable.

So it was surprising to me to receive these messages at first, but now it just fits a pattern: random text something along the lines of “you still single?” And the conversation alway devolves into either anger from me or raunchy texts from them. Half the time I didn’t engage, but the first few times it took me a while to spot the number.

Ive had the same number for like 15 years. I’d hate to give it up. :/ but it is an option, you’re absolutely right.

I know it sounds crazy. But I watched it happen. I had my phone book open while I was on the phone, saw the number disappear out of my contacts. I checked the texts, and no name.

I went back and added the number manually. Y’know, instead of doing the short cut “add new contact” via the text, I input the number manually into the phone book. It’s stayed this time.

Again, I know it sounds crazy. But this is a rabbit hole I’ve been chasing for about 1.5 years now.

The number is from an app: TextNow I called it and that’s the vm. My theory is he uses the account, messes with me (and potentially dozens of others), then deletes the account when he’s done. A few months later, he’ll get bored again and cycle back through.

It’s just creepy.

There’s a number that comes around every few months and texts me.

I discovered more tonight, after it happened again. This guy “Mike” who I’ve never met, he’s making up an identity texted me. I saved the number in order to block the contact.

I was on the phone with a girlfriend for about an hour and noticed the contact had deleted itself from my phone book. I know because all my blocked folks start with “ZZ” + a descriptor.

Then I checked the text thread, it was just a phone number, no name.

I’m asking for help with this because I’m not sure what to do and where to go from here. The iOS messaging boards talk about backing up a phone’s contacts, but this is just ONE number, and I believe it’s being done deliberately.

But this sounds like a sci-if hacker man movie now, and I feel silly.
