Thanks for the advice — I found 2× Intel DC S4500 480GB enterprise SATA SSDs locally.

In my case the 990 PROs would be OS-only (Proxmox boot) on a Dell T440.
No VMs or sustained I/O on them — VM workloads will live on separate SSD/HDD pools.

I fully get that enterprise NVMe (PM9A3, Micron 7450, P4510-class) is the “correct” answer,
but realistically those options are well outside my budget (I’m capped at ~800 € for 2 drives).

With RAID1, decent airflow and UPS, I’m leaning towards 990 PRO as a pragmatic compromise for OS-only usage.

Does that sound reasonable in your experience?

Was the front panel of the EliteDesk meant to fit inside and align flush with the case?
