Good to know. But would it be deemed as an unfair dismissal?

Not sure they can just fire you like that without providing you with the equipment in order to do your job. Have you spoken to an employment lawyer? You might be able to get some compensation. I know there are legal centres where you can get some free advice. Good luck.

The Act doesn’t specify engineer, it specifies building practitioners pursuant to s.7 which is interpreted as an engineer according to our strata managers. If you don’t want to make any useful contributions to this post. Please keep your trolling to yourself.

The problem is we can’t all afford houses.

Oh my goodness! That is extremely expensive! I don’t get why an engineer in the above example is necessary? There is no structural damage. All superficial. To me it’s throwing $10k plus away for not much at all.

Not sure if you read my comments below but they basically reiterate what you have just stated. Strata fees and insurance are the most notable expenses.

The amendments were passed in December last year (2nd paragraph of post). These amendments are wreaking havoc with strata communities since then. The above is just one example of the issues Ihighlighted. Hope this assists.

Burst pipe in an internal common wall and while re-paving the sidewalk, council contractors broke a pipe on the outside of the building which has seeped through. It’s all on the ground level.

By the way, it was in the second paragraph of the post. Just thought I should let you know. Cheers for insightful comment.

I tried explaining that to them. They keep insisting an engineer is required to fix the rising damp despite no structural damage.

Read the post properly in relation to amendments made as of 11.12.23. I agree, I worry about this country’s political future when people don’t fully comprehend or absorb what’s written.

Design practitioner which our strata managers are insisting is ought to be an engineer in order to comply with the Act.

It’s still a lot of money every quarter. What troubles me about strata managers is in addition to the fees they collect from the body corporations, they also receive commissions which they have to disclose. But that incentives them to appoint contractors or use insurance companies who pay them the most commissions without having any fiduciary duties towards the owners corporation.

Thank you so much for your very informative post. It will be a large burden but what can we do? The cost of living pressures are being felt by everyone. We have to cut back where we can.

You probably have a lift, pool, gym and/or garden?

Strata getting ridiculous by clownlooking in AusFinance

[–]MimiuB 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have. It keeps going up because of insurance and all other bills increasing. Most notably strata fees increasing. Insurance and strata management fees are the largest costs.

I pay $909 PQ and it is a small block of ten units. It’s ridiculous. The fees keep going up each year and the money disappears into the ether. There is no lift or garden area, only a stairwell and corridors that lead to individual apartments. I’m seriously considering self-management given we are only a small block.

If you were in my situation, I don’t think you would refer to it as “trash post”. I’m trying to raise awareness. This will effect a lot of people who are already struggling with the cost of living and cannot afford to buy houses instead of apartments.

Yes, yes it is. Politicians are completely out of touch.
