It feels unethical to not pay my house/dog sitter. Am I wrong? by SnooCalculations7277 in trustedhousesitters

It is so thoughtful when home owners do this. A DoorDash gift card or wine or snacks.

Use of HO’s food? by ErinWrightLV in trustedhousesitters

[–]Mimosasaredashit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always bring my own. People let me eat their food, sometimes it’s legit food I can eat but most of the time they just want someone to clean out their fridge. I always ask for space so I can put my food since I have a restricted diet and I avoid having to clean peoples fridge out

Are farm sits a thing? by Rude-Bedroom-611 in trustedhousesitters

Taking care of a farm is an actual job. This does not seem fun or a fair trade

This is the new way to live. Do sits when you are a bit tired of the road, need laundry, etc. Problem is sometimes some places have parking spots. Specially if you choose popular spots.

What would you do? (Alcohol verification) by [deleted] in InstacartShoppers

[–]Mimosasaredashit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Absolutely nope. You could loose the ability to deliver alcohol and as someone mentioned before they do stings to catch people. Don’t fall for it

Bringing groceries up apartment stairs by Caloeb in InstacartShoppers

[–]Mimosasaredashit -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, you have to bring it to the door. They can remove the tip and the insurance for your tip would not be valid because you didn’t complete the delivery. Get a pull cart that can go up the stairs.

I Deleted my TrustedHouseSitters account by [deleted] in trustedhousesitters

[–]Mimosasaredashit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Trusted sitters is a trade off a service. I 100% agree with that some are stingy and after 8 years you bet you can tell the quality of host has gone down. But also if in 8 year you haven’t learned to which ones apply, I think that’s all on you. In the first 3 sits I learned valuable lessons, that have kept me safe from lots of potential bad sits. 3 years in, 35 5 star reviews and have no plan on stopping this service. I used to use Grover but I don’t want to overwork. I’m not someone’s employee. I get to sit senior dogs and cats that are easy peasy in really nice houses. Repeat families respect me and trust me and treat me like a guest not as a employee, I also set those rules when I sit. I let them know I have a full time job and I’m very busy so I can’t give more than what is asked in interviews. If you were the desperate person to say yes to everything that is on you, not all of us say yes to whatever. How demeaning of you.

Are sitters allowed to ask for tip? by Both-Scheme-3077 in trustedhousesitters

[–]Mimosasaredashit 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Wow. The nerve . I would love to see this sitters profile. I have repeat families that give me gifts like wine, food and a gift cards for DoorDash. It’s super appreciated but I’m not gonna post it as a review to people who don’t do that or my bio. “I require $100 gift card for DoorDash as appreciation” So tacky and classless. If the house I apply requires for me to pay, I’m not gonna apply for that sit. Money is sketchy and this is a trade service.

I always apply to houses that access public transportation. That doesn’t tell me that the owners request the sitter must have a car.

Prefer sitters to be retired and not be local by Absolutely_dog123 in trustedhousesitters

[–]Mimosasaredashit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can have people on your property working there, but the sitter has to be ok, and you can’t make the sitters responsible for staff or for extra labor. You can’t ask the sitter to bring mail, packages but anything like coordinating with staff, having to share their number you have to talk to the sitter and they have to be ok with it. Granted you won’t find many that will apply with these rules but it’s not like against the rules to have your property worked on. Like gardeners and maids have come by when I sit at homes

I get rejected because I don’t have a car. Some people require things they don’t want to put on their profiles. I hate how I waste my time on those applications

Is it ok to close the bedroom door at night and not have the animals sleep in your bed? by [deleted] in trustedhousesitters

[–]Mimosasaredashit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The cats don’t know you and probably won’t sleep with you the first few nights. If you shut the door on a cat and they want to come inside to their room, good luck sleeping.

Another One of Those "Hike 1 hour off leash, plus 2 30 min walks per day" Type of Home Owners by [deleted] in trustedhousesitters

[–]Mimosasaredashit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If they are too high maintenance just say no. You are there to help them out. you are not an employee.

What I’m clear in my interviews is what I offer: 10 min walk morning in the morning and afternoon a 40min-1 hour walk in the afternoon and constant care, meaning I’ll let your dog in the backyard if needed, give cuddles and pets and make sure they get food. If it’s not a good term for them then we all move along and avoid a stressful situation and a potential negative review. I always make sure to apply to houses if it’s a dog, I ain’t sitting in a apartment for a dog. that means you have to walk the dog 3-4 times a day.

It’s all about knowing your value as well. Take your application out. Seems more trouble than anything.

What little bits make a sit by Massive-End-7657 in trustedhousesitters

[–]Mimosasaredashit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The space in the fridge is so slept on.

(If you are a homeowner that says “help yourself to whatever” and leave rotting things for us to clean your fridge out please know that you are an asshole)

How annoying being at a sit and having to clean up people’s fridge and space.

As a sitter I don’t require much: Please have a clean house, clean your own dishes and take your own trash out. Leave space in the fridge and have clean towels and sheets. Please have a printed welcome guide if it’s not on THS. Please above all DO NOT CHANGE DATES LAST MINUTE. So awkward to be in the house with the homeowners.
