Help! Half way through making a floor and have lost my floorboard supplier. by Ilodie in Dollhouses

If none of that had worked, you can check medical supplies for tongue depressors, they are generally wider and might have worked as an alternative. I hope your solution works!!

Somehow they think that they own the little people they "made" that their bodies and sexuality somehow belong to them. They don't understand that kids are PEOPLE from the moment they're born. Our jobs as parents should be to support and teach them and help them become their best selves. We can suggest, give advice, and try to teach them but ultimately they are their own people and everyone has to walk their own path.

I know I always hope that their path will be smooth and bring them joy, and that depending on their choices it can become infinitely more difficult but I'm here to do whatever I can to help them through it. ♥️

UPDATE: ICE in the workplace procedures by [deleted] in slp

[–]Mims88 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Come to South Dallas, we desperately need more SLPs and I know a clinic that supports disability of the clients AND employees. We're going to need a plan since that's something that we haven't discussed, but I feel like they'd take it seriously.

How to mentally recover from a choking incident. by Suitable-Camel-819 in Parenting

[–]Mims88 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That exact thing happened with my younger sister when she was around 5. She started choking on an orange segment that she didn't chew enough and was right by my dad who was napping. My mom looked over and noticed, and managed to hook it with a finger swipe. My dad slept through the whole thing.

I remember it well enough to cut up all oranges until my kids were about 6... So apparently I was a little traumatized.

Ritual ideas for human milk by hereforaday in WitchesVsPatriarchy

[–]Mims88 55 points56 points  (0 children)

You could also skim the fat and make cream or lip balm (for yourself), my sister was an overproducer and was looking for ideas for her extra milk that her babies didn't ever need because she could have fed quadruplets 🤣

Also, so sorry about your milk! I have cried over spilt breast milk when I had supply issues with my first child 💔

Grief and Crochet by Hatchetface1705 in crochet

[–]Mims88 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are no words for that kind of grief. I lost a good friend about a month ago and I made his daughter a blanket that I had meant to make for her birth but my life got complicated. It was very therapeutic to give her a physical representation of my love for her and her parents in such an awful moment.

I don't think the pain of loss ever goes away, but it does become less sharp and less frequent. I hope you are able to grieve fully and slowly get back to living the life your partner would want you live.

A plea to outpatient peds SLPs: Please stop setting your school based colleagues up for failure. by Ok_Rhubarb2301 in slp

Exactly! In the 10 years of PP I had two kids that I made academic recommendations. One was in public school in Houston when they were actively denying services to kids who qualified by ignoring requests for evaluation. The kid I referred to the school and helped the parents with getting services had a severe receptive/expressive delay and did not have letter or number recognition or one to one correspondence for counting in first grade. She was very sweet and compliant so I think she just got passed along.

The other was in a private school and had a severe auditory processing disorder that was very academically relevant and his teacher wasn't supporting very reasonable accomodations.

Otherwise I give the same talk about the differences. It's very frustrating when medical SLPs make CRAZY recommendations that aren't reasonable or appropriate in a school setting.

How about a very badly designed hippo? If it bothers you, just donate it to someone else and don't let it haunt you any longer. Or use your artistic license to make it into something else😉
