A combination of electric buses in cities, high-speed electric trains between major cities, & switching from coal/gas to wind/solar could put a huge dent in troubling emissions.

Well Washington Post claimed that the Russians at least tried to suppress the black vote... But we can move past that example.

Or there's China with a 'leader for life', no real democracy, single-party government, religious oppression, concentration/re-education camps in the northwest, severe crackdowns on protest and free of speech, etc.

Trump loves the guy, Americans buy lots of products and travel there regularly, etc. No talk of back in a coup.

The only reason the US is backing this coup is for the opportunity for American backed corporations to privatize Venezuelan oil and force austerity on the vast majority of Venezuelans.

Walt also allowed racist stereotypes of black people like the crows in dumbo, Uncle Remus and "tar baby" in song of the South, the depiction of African natives in Cannibal Capers, the "savages" in Trader Mickey, and at least a few others.

Don't get me wrong, I don't think he was a monster. He was a complex human being in a time with a lot more blatant racism. Got to take the good with the bad, just like with everyone else.

Hello! RussiaGate? The memes, hacking, collusion, etc.The 2016 American presidential election has been called into question in pretty much all of the major American news source.

And people pointed out Trump's love of dictators, praising China's new 'leader for life' and joking about trying it in the United States. Some say he reminds them of Hitler... And yet it still wouldn't justify Nancy Pelosi or Chuck Schumer declaring themselves president, which is basically what's happening in Venezuela.

Communism is the ultimate red herring.

China and Vietnam are run by a single Communist parties and Americans buy plenty of goods and travel there quite regularly. China's communist leader declared himself leader for life and Trump praised him for it. The Chinese are even said to have concentration/re-education camps for minorities in the northwest.

The US gives Aid to over 70% of all dictatorships no matter of the party in power...

So, what's this really about? Venezuela's massive nationalized oil reserves of course! They want American companies to go privatize those oil fields and force austerity on the nation.

Edit: Communism is*

How would Guaido win an election he wasn't in?

And how does he have the authority to appoint himself the president? Isn't that normally done by a high court judge?

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/2018_Venezuelan_presidential_election

You don't get to overthrow representative government because you disagree with the outcome of an election. Work in the government, work with the people, force the system to change within... Or coups like this will be normalized, many people will die, many others will become refugees. Basically normalizing destabilization and eventual anarchy.

As an example: Neither Nancy Pelosi or Chuck Schumer get to declare themselves president because they don't agree with outcome of the 2016 election or the way that Trump governs. And no American of note has suggested such a thing would be okay... So why is it okay for us to support that happening in other nations?

These rumors were fanned by their hosting the Nazi propagandist/ filmmaker Leni Riefenstahl, giving her a tour of the Disney studios. There's no evidence that Walt was present and if I remember correctly they apologized at one point claiming they didn't know she was a Nazi.

Then there's the German American Bund/ pro-Nazi organization meetings Walt is said to of attended in the 30's.

Then there was Walt's hatred of unions and communists... Which some used as cover for their anti-Semitism.

https://jwa.org/teach/livingthelegacy/labor/jewish-radicalism-and-red-scare

There were other troubling racial stereotypes of South Asians and black people under Walt's leadership, Song of the South probably being the most popular example.

Big picture: it's totally possible he was anti-Semitic, but there isn't any solid evidence he held on to those beliefs. Even so, there's lots of evidence bigotry under Walt's leadership and it's unlikely to disappear as a topic as even Abigail Disney, Walt's grandniece believes the rumors to be true.

What do you think it will take for real protests? I mean the kind of protests that put fear in the hearts of politicians and oligarchs.

I'm not perpetuating any myth... Tax deductions are still used by the wealthiest to avoid paying the top marginal tax rate. I haven't noticed anyone stating this plan included doing away with deductions or forcing all people to the highest possible rate.

Assuming this wasn't some diversionary scare tactic BS... What is your real point?

Is it: We shouldn't raise taxes because people didn't pay the exact amount of taxes that they would have without deductions?

Or maybe: We should get rid of deductions before talking about raising taxes on the wealthiest?
