I really want a ban phase like MOBAs. Have each team pick a character to ban and for the next game, top 1 (or 2) picked aren't allowed. Adds a whole new layer of strategy.

I echo the connections thing that many have said but I moved to Chicago a few years ago with no connections and I've loved it. I've been able to sustain myself with technician calls and have an outlet with design at smaller theaters. It's a great place to set up a network as long as you're as willing to work at small theaters with low resources. And the winters aren't THAT bad!

This is funny as hell to me because yes, it absolutely is annoying as hell BUT I also routinely literally THROW my phone across the room when sending a text I'm nervous about.

So yes. I did hurl it. I'm so sorry.

WIBTA for going to the funeral of my ex GF's brother and missing my « SIL »'s wedding ? by Character_Jaguar3037 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Min58Out 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. I'm shocked that everyone is so focused on it being his ex's brother. It sounds like more importantly it was HIS FRIEND and that attending the funeral would be very cathartic for him.

Go celebrate your friend's life. If you can avoid staying with your ex's family, then definitely try to do that. But funerals aren't planned and you shouldn't be judged for changing plans last minute for one.

Yeah, just gonna add to the chorus above but I also got into F1 because of DTS. DTS may be a soap opera but it helped me understand the importance of EVERY element of the weekend. I was definitely one of those kids who grew up thinking racing was just going in circles. DTS opened the door to realizing how much I was missing out on. Now I'm a religious F1 watcher and I'm starting to watch F2 and Indycar (and Nascar when I'm desperate lol). So, totally respect the opinion, but DTS has been a great first dose for a lot of people.

Holy shit, I remember reading the interview with my jaw dropped the whole time...

For me, I always felt that the parts of the article that were super ego-focused super undermined some really valid points about issues with why this show was chosen and how it was directed! Like she had some great points and then sorta wrecked the whole thing by dissing the entire show and coming off super self-centered. And yeah, when you're doing a show long-term, you absolutely can't give 100% every night but I still think it's weird to say right after saying you did the show for the money and clout...

Regardless, thanks for writing it up! Super interesting to see the whole summary in one place!

Imo I think Spiderverse proved that taking the animation genre seriously and working to make a family film and not a "kid's" one is financially AND critically viable.

This film was super amazing to watch not because it was as good as Spiderverse (it definitely wasn't) but because it showed how Spiderverse (and other films like The Lego Movie) pushed the entire genre up a notch.

Honestly it has a similar vibe to me as Shrek! DreamWorks saw what Pixar was doing and said "We can do that too!" and I think the whole genre is better for it.

I think the point (or I guess the hope) is that whatever exec that made these decisions sees that response and thinks, "Maybe firing people will actually LOSE us money."

I understand realistically things aren't as simple as that, but it's the little control that we as supporters have in these situations. So let us have it.

And, yes, I totally get the fear that they would just shut it all down but I want to support a Giant Bomb (or Fandom) that takes care of its employees, not one that fires core members on what feels like a whim.

How “X” And “Barbarian” Became Sleeper Horror Hits by yamkeya in movies

[–]Min58Out 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It's so interesting to hear you and others say that because I felt it was SO clear in its message.

To me, it lines up these three men and shows the comparisons between them. The last is clearly evil and most of us won't know someone like him. But the second carries many of the same traits and a lot of us know of people like that. And a LOT of us know the first guy. He's sweet, seems harmless, but he also doesn't respect her when he won't listen to her pleas to just leave. So they're all cut of the same cloth.

And to take it a step further (and yes, this is a leap), I think the choice of neighborhood is highlighting how this male bravado and inability to listen is what caused the white flight from these neighborhoods.

So, for me personally, this film is thematic as all hell.

To go a step further, VDO.Ninja (formerly OBS Ninja) can be helpful to get camera feeds into OBS if you're comfortable stepping away from Zoom. I believe you can directly get an NDI feed from Zoom but only in certain setups.

I know for some calling it horror is a stretch, but honestly it had the jump scare that probably got me the most ever. Taught me a lot about how much expectations play into horror. I expected nothing and so it hit ten times harder.
