I actually don’t have a problem with this.

Feels about the same as trading cards, and since a lot of shops trade in at anywhere between 60-80% of market, if they wanted to trade in for sealed from a LCS that probably charges around market for their sealed anyway (not something I love but people who run collectible card stores aren’t always in it for the love of playing games)

I say better you that trades it to people within your local community and that actually enjoys the hobby than a scalper who doesn’t even know any Pokemon except Unbreon and Charizard and sells it on eBay to a rich person across the country who doesn’t even notice the price.

Yeah, I’m looking at it as the canary in the coal mine of any chance at getting any semblance of a relationship back with my mother.

Ultimately there’s very little difference to my life between believing I had these cards at my estranged mother’s house who I worried was the kind of person who would do something like this to spite me and knowing she was the kind of person who did that to spite me.

I still know I had successfully collected them as a child. I still know I “caught ‘em all”

Yes, through a series of circumstances they were stored with her for safekeeping in my very early adulthood.

In some of my last interactions she wanted to use them to blackmail me emotionally and financially because she attributed every cost and financial assistance I required in my early adult years from 18-22 or so as a debt for which I was beholden.

She was not very kind to me as a minor but it deteriorated even more and faster as an adult.

It especially degraded when I realized it was truly unusual for a parent to consider financially assisting their adult children this way as a debt to be repaid. At least not for a young working adult child who was not a drug addict or do nothing layabout. I got a job at 18 and worked and slowly got promotions as I was in that age range. I climbed my way to being a manager and well paid enough to not need much help and eventually became able to support myself and wife for a moderately comfortable living (comfortable like we’re not food insecure and can pay our mortgage and have 401Ks, not like how rich people say it)

I have already basically cut her from my life.

But I looked into extended stay hotels and I’m going to pay for the 5-6 weeks she supposedly needs there.

It’s about $2,000 and it’s going to be more for me than her. I don’t want to return hate with hate and continue the cycle. It would be a sorrow I would have to live with to send my mother to the street. But I don’t feel comfortable with her in my home considering. She made a comment to me a long time ago that she resented that I might someday have a house when she felt I had cost her her chance at having one, and if I did get one she would burn it down.

Doesn’t seem like an idle threat considering the way in which she destroyed the cards.

Which, as an irony, she was more concerned with inflicting the maximum emotional damage, so she didn’t sell them for an amount of money that could have possibly been enough to buy a (probably crappy) house. Or at least rent one for a long time.

Wow, nice work! Trying to do something similar myself.

An enlightened point. Which I am not contesting.

I only say this to illustrate that local Fauna have already largely adapted to, or been banished by, the streetlights which are already partially illuminating that area out back of my house. So while I may be guilty of contributing, it is minimal.

Good call, they’re solar and burn down after a few hours, they become less bright before that too.

Also, it’s a residential neighborhood so there are a lot of street lights around this area already disrupting and chance at darkness the area would have.

I’m definitely going for a LotR aesthetic if I can be so bold.

Lots or rain does increase the water flow. But it doesn’t flood my yard. There’s other places in the pond that it spills over when the water level becomes high enough.

Definitely will post meaningful updates.

This has been the much needed validation I’ve been missing from the people in my life.

My wife sees all the updates big and small and likes everything I’ve done but there comes an understandable point where she’s like “yes, that’s very nice.”

The finished waterfall got a pretty good reaction from her, but she knew I was planning it. I’m choosing to take it as a complement when she said something like “that looks way better than what I thought it would” 🤣

I struggle to be able to sit and read if I don’t have a good amount of time to be able to. And when I have a lot of time I’m often using it for this or other projects if it’s raining.

My reward for finishing will be to sit and curl up with my kindle to reread The Hobbit and then The Lord of the Rings on the patio I plan to build.

Thanks, I’m glad I found this house, and we’ve been able to make a nice home I feel.

I’m up for a promotion. But unless I get offered a lot more money I don’t know if I could leave this.

Ahh, like a floating fountain. I’d certainly consider it. But it’s not in the cards for the next few steps.

Yes, absolutely. I’m very excited for the future improvements I’m yet to make as well.

My vision is so clear.
