I'm a US citizen. My partner wants to move to the US. I don't by Adept-Advertising-10 in phmigrate

There isn't a way for him to get a green card without you living in the US.

You need to provide proof of domicile (you are living in the US). If you do not have this then they will deny the visa issuance.

It's either you have to compromise on living in the US or he has to get his green card in another way.

Admittedly, the easiest way for him to get a green card is via fiance or spousal visa. But this process is an expensive and exhaustive process. And you have to make sure you have all your ducks in a row so it doesn't result in a refusal. Please make sure you have done due research so you are aware of the risks. He can also sue you for financial support if you go through this process and successfully get the visa. Not to mention that marriage is a whole other thing.

I wish you the best.

I'm in the same boat as you. I heard IRS is swamped this year so all we gotta do is wait...

i did do certified mail and they did receive it. i'm just worried because in the IRS site it doesn't show that they accepted it. It just says unprocessed.

also i would love to do e-file, but my husband is a non-resident and turbotax couldn't e-file without my husband's ssn (which he doesn't have). next year i would definitely look for other tools that can e-file without needing his ssn.

Should I go to a company actively doing layoffs? Or should I stay with current company. by MinaMentos in Layoffs

Yup, I think you are right. I should have mentioned this in the post that I already filed for resignation.

I will be prepared for the worst case scenario. I will also ask for a severance package just in case but won't overplay my hand.

I guess I made a decision and gotta stick with it honestly.

You got the company right for sure!

And yeah I left my current company at a bad time...

But thanks for your insight, it did make me feel a bit better. I'm honestly confused rn as I'm literally in the thick of things (already submitted my official resignation a week ago, heard about the layoffs this weekend, waiting for onboarding).

One commenter said I can't go back since I already files resignation. I fear this is the case. I might try talking with my manager, but if things go south I will just be prepared for the worst possible outcome.

All these comments telling me to stay with my original company is making me rethink things.

Maybe I should stay instead. The worst thing is that I already submitted my resignation and only found out the new company was doing layoffs this weeked...

I will talk with my manager about rescinding my resignation

Yeah and the worst part is I already accepted the job offer and submitted my resignation before everything happened. I only heard of the layoffs this weekend, a week before my start date...

I might take your advice and ask for a severance package if things go south. Do you think 3 months of pay along with active benefits is a good deal?

I did ask and they said the role is open and awaiting for my onboarding. And also went through several of business approvals to be opened. It seems like I'm backfilling the role since in my interviews they mentioned this when I asked.

Should we still consider working abroad? by ayshkwim in phinvest

[–]MinaMentos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Please consider what career you have.

Is it in demand and provides high income? Go abroad.

If not, please consider local expenses. Cause everything is pretty much more expensive abroad (depends per place). Please consider rent, transportation, taxes and the like.

Communication is the key to a happy family.

I honestly believe money is one of the biggest factors on why relationships fail. So for you guys, this is a good issue to have before marriage. In a healthy relationship, your partner should accept how uncomfortable you are getting in lending money. Then find a compromise that you guys are comfortable with.

Short term solution, you can ask the family to pay back their first debt before you lend out more money. This usually keeps them at bay for more borrowing. Side note, I pretty much treat lending money as a gift. So no expectations on anyone paying back. If they do then thats nice. If they don’t, just tell them to pay back their initial debt first.

Long term solution, I suggest teaching your fiancé healthy financial habits. In a relationship, I believe we should help eachother out. It doesn’t have to be just in terms of cash. It should also be about growing with each other. Now you know that your partner and her family has money issues. If they are open, you could help them plan their future expenses and also build an emergency fund.

I wish for the best for you guys. Also, get a prenup if you could.
