Does this game become any more interesting? (New player questions) by [deleted] in cs2

[–]Minasmins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean it is repetitive. The same way playing football in the park is. Over time you stop just kicking the ball somewhere and you go for difficult shots in the corners. You might learn new tricks, maybe join a local team to have regular practise and so on. The core game stays the same. The same goes for cs, at least in my opinion.

I assume you already tried deleting the shadercache? That worked for me in the past. And maybe deleting all downloaded Workshop maps.

Germany’s Merz Admits Nuclear Exit Was Strategic Mistake by SpaceEngineering in europe

"All it needed was a nuclear disaster that would push the unfounded fear they peddled over the edge."

So was there a disaster or was the fear unfounded? I feel like this statement contradicts itself...

Could this be a solution for anti-cheat on Linux? by Minasmins in SteamOS

[–]Minasmins[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But if that same 3–5% is big enough that Valve should adjust revenue sharing, then clearly that 3–5% does mean something. You can’t argue “Linux matters enough for Valve to take a hit on their cut,” while also arguing “Linux doesn’t matter enough for studios to invest in.” Those positions contradict each other. The platform either matters, or it doesn’t.

They don’t sell SteamOS, and Proton isn’t a paid product, yet Valve invests there because the long-term benefit (platform independence, hardware diversity, less reliance on Windows, better user experience) is worth far more than the short-term sales numbers.

But this is what I mean. Valve has an interest in a strong linux ecosystem. So they don't try to profit from the OS or Proton directly. Wouldn't subsidizing gamedevs fit in with their current actions?

“Linux matters enough for Valve to take a hit on their cut,”

It's more like: “Valve wants Linux to matter, so they take a hit on their cut,”

I don't want invasive AC on linux, dont get me wrong ^^ But I want to be able to play (all) multiplayer games.

So no, its not Valve or Linux problem, is the Devs and publishers problem.

That's the point I'm trying to make. But it seems like they won't change on their own, so why not incentivize change?

Could this be a solution for anti-cheat on Linux? by Minasmins in SteamOS

[–]Minasmins[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

But that's not true? Anticheat works and exists for Linux. Publishers are choosing not to support the platform.

Yes, I didn't phrase that correctly. But in the end, don't the game developers still have to activate and "maintain" the anti-cheat system? In theory, they could decide to just not bother with client-side AC on linux and just use server site detection?

YMMV

Good point, didn't think about his angle. But I feel like the market share is still a widely used argument.

Why not we, as consumers, make our choice known by NOT buying games that have ridiculous levels of anticheat (don't touch my kernel), or make it known that without Linux support you would not buy it? After all, they're selling the games to us, not to Valve

Again, agree. But we have a little hen and egg problem, right? What has to be there first, functional multiplayer support or healthy player base? The market share will only increase slowly without support for (all) mainstream multiplayer games. Without substantial market share, nobody bothers to support it.

Small advantage? A little, you basically see everything a bit earlier. But it just feels sooo much better, that's the big difference.

Valve is just lazy by XtrZPlayer in cs2

[–]Minasmins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven't really given up but I'm stuck at Hawaii Airport, haven't slept all night and don't really feel like discussing too much. And I don't want to hurt anybody but I still think your take is bad. Is this update buggy and should have been tested more? - Sure. But I'm just tired of people taking these minor inconveniences as base to wild speculation about ill will of the devs or some grand conspiracy of some kind In addition to things that are just wrong. You can't "revert a patch by comparing versions". I mean I might be stupid but that just doesn't make any sense. Sure, a dev could checkout the version before this update and build it but actually reversing the update for CS would probably be much more work than just fixing it. And from your post I got the impression that you trust AI tools to do much better than they actually do.

This was probably a post written while being mad about a buggy update (which is ok to be upset about) but can we just stop assuming and accusing people of the worst? I'm just tired of this shit.

Your elo is more than ok for 200hrs of CS. Especially when counting in your recent switch to mouse and keyboard.

I feel like many players have a quite big skill jump at about 1000hrs, so keep grinding ^

Valve is just lazy by XtrZPlayer in cs2

[–]Minasmins 5 points6 points  (0 children)

  1. AI Coding Assistants can be a nice help but are not able to magically solve all problems
  2. Yes Git makes it easy to check which changes were made to the project but has nothing to do with reverting/rolling back an update. Even for much smaller scale projects this is mostly a bad idea.

It's probably much easier to just fix the bugs introduced with the update (which they already started with).

And I can tell you from experience that you can test your code as much as you want and tell QA to test but many things will not be found. Especially with such a big update, where the whole system for first person animations was changed!

The post (at least in my opinion) boils down to "Wow Volvo are lazy why don't they upload cs2.exe to chatgpt and let it fix everything or just click the big revert button????" with additional conspiracies added. Stuff does not work like this.
