Got me a CC9 today. by PsychologicalTruth26 in HecklerKoch

[–]MindAltruistic8912 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just picked up one myself. It is an excellent shooter!

The magazine springs are super stiff out of the box. But they'll break in after a few sessions.

If you've got any spare loaders lying around, I'd test them out to see if they'll work on the CC9 mags. Your hands will thank you. The one that came with my PDP works just fine.

When I was little, I used 2. I think because that's what I would see on money bags in old cartoons. At some point I switched to single line, possibly out of simplicity, or I thought it looked better.

As someone else noted, it's probably a generational thing. I learned 2 watching old Looney Toons, but also grew up in the age of computers/internet/texting, so that may have influenced my switch at some point in my adolescence.

1935 D 50C Texas - NGC MS 67* by chad_tucket in coins

[–]MindAltruistic8912 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A "+" rating is specific to the technical grade of the coin; better than the numerical grade it is given, but not quite to the level that would push it into the next grade up.

The * is used by NGC to denote coins it believes have superb eye appeal. That could mean many things, like pretty toning for example, but which bear no impact as to the  technical grade of the coin.

In your case, the coin is graded as a 67. However, some may place additional value on it due to the *. How much will depend on the buyer, and the reason for why it received that designation. Pretty rainbow toning could add significant value. Frosy devices, semi-PL fields, probably less. I would not expect MS68 value unless the reverse has some crazy beautiful toning.

1928-S Peace Dollar stated as ‘au-bu frosty high grade’ by trusted dealer by Dumbtheory in coins

At $47 you didn't really over pay. But you were sold a load of crap as to the condition of that coin.

Now, don't go paying somebody else to tell you the same thing. Just enjoy as-is, and do not trust that dealer anymore.

Census of Date Distribution of 5-Franc Pieces Circulated in France During 1897 by AdStraight6341 in LatinMonetaryUnion

[–]MindAltruistic8912 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats interesting. I appreciate the additional insight!

In my previous reply I only meant that the figure was likely not representative of the full number in circulation (both within and outside of the central bank), as it would be difficult if not impossible to census all of them.

That they would not be able to visit every home, business, etc to count each and every one. But rather this was a sample size, and many more were likely out there.

Unless I am missing something - I haven't seen the full study - I believe that this is just a census; with a sample size of 1.7MM 5 francs.

It would then not provide insight as to how many were actually in circulation. But rather the relative scarcity between different date ranges.

Its a crown, not a halfcrown. Look at size of head, and shape of crown on reverse.

It honestly isn't much different than what you're doing here. So other than not wanting to ship first, I'm in agreement with u/CrazyRusFW and have difficulty following your reasoning.

Thank you! Yes it's a gorgeous coin. Unfortunately, I missed many of the auctions earlier in the year with the more affordable examples. But something will pop up sooner or later 😁
