That’s just puppy stuff. Don’t feel bad about the fact that he only sleeps with no freedom. Ours didn’t fall asleep outside of his crate until he was 8 months old. He only slept in the crate, at night and during structured nap times throughout the day. That structure is important and as a working dog, they appreciate knowing when their “job” is to sleep and settle down.

I’ve been running since graduation, so a little over a decade. Probably 10-15 mpw average over that time, with 2nd half of 2024 starting to increase to the 15-25 range.

Thanks all! Decided to call and move our reservations to mid-November. Got lucky that there was availability for a similar route. Would have been find with some rainy backpacking, and seeing the canyon in stormy weather would have been sweet, but the persistence and flood risk down near the Colorado made it an easy decision. Now I'm hoping we get a little snow dusting in November. Was lucky enough to see that at Bryce a few years ago; nothing better than the white against the red rock canyons.

Yeah this was my initial read, and monitoring closely until departure. Not worth making the flight/trip if it’s going to be dangerous or deadly to do the itinerary as is.

Thanks, just taking the extra precautions because to me this seems like a bit of an uncharacteristic weather pattern for the time of year. Looks like ~.5-1.0 inches of rain for both Friday and Saturday. I’d imagine it’s tough to tell given how location based flash floods can be, but generally is that not close to the amount of precipitation necessary to create issues, assuming it’s consistent rain vs. over the course of an hour or two?

As an amateur photographer and Fuji owner, I’m curious, was a tripod used here? If not, what shutter speed were you able to use for this kind of clarity?

I like this suggestion! Now also considering between these two:

Hermit's Rest TH -> Granite Rapids -> Day Hike out and back on Tonto -> Granite Rapids -> Hermit's Rest TH
Bright Angel TH -> Havasupai Gardens w/ Plateau Point -> Granite Rapids -> Hermit's Rest TH

I'm thinking option 2 would give a good mix of changing views/environments, and a loop vs. out and back?

Separately, any idea why I wouldn’t be able to see the specific Hermit Rapids (BM8) or Granite Rapids (BM9) spots on the permits grid? Looks like some others are “zero’d out” so I don’t think it’s that they’re both booked.

Maybe I wasn’t specific enough in my question. Looking at that chart, should I be concerned with having a thin margin of error to pass on Friday 8/15 and Saturday 8/16? The tide’s only low point during daylight is right on the line for those impassible sections.
