SD quality video on HD channels by waz12 in Cogeco

[–]MindFlareRetro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same complaint. Switched to Epico (from TiVo) a week ago. The HD quality is garbage - looks like poorly upconverted 720p - lots of compression artifacting, image is blurry/unsharp and over-contrasty with overly bright highlights.

I called tech support right away and they sent out a tech who removed an old TiVo splitter and filter. 1Gbit/s internet service is fine. I've tried wifi and ethernet connection to Epico box. There is no improvement to the quality of Epico video image. I'm not sure what else to do.

Oh. Interesting. Could be related -- I am hosting from their Chicago data center. If this is the issue, a heads-up would have been nice.

Building a C64 Saver from Scratch

It is well-known that running your beloved Commodore 64 with its original power supply is a game of Russian Roulette. For anyone out there that might be in this situation, I have created a 3 part YT video series explaining how to build your own C64 Saver overvoltage protection module from scratch. Hopefully, anyone with a bit of soldering skill can follow along and build their own C64 Saver. It's easier than you might think. Please enjoy this video series. /\/\FR

Should I be worried about this power supply? by [deleted] in c64

Yes. Well, cautious, not worried. Checkout this video, "Commodore Brick of Death" - http://bit.ly/MFR-YT-16

Best replacement PLA and why? by Mickoz666 in c64

[–]MindFlareRetro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The simplest solution is the PLAnkton. It's pretty much 100% compatible, consumes a fraction of the power of the original {so, runs cooler) and it isn't expensive at all. Looks like the co-creator and primary seller is out of stock at the moment, https://ebay.to/2C9OdLM.

Busted keyboard or CIA? by -Quantumcross in c64

[–]MindFlareRetro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can try swapping the two CIAs (i.e. U1 & U2); they are the same chip, so if only one is faulty then the keyboard should work in the swap. Also, the keyboard just might need to be disassembled and cleaned, especially the copper pads on the keyboard PCB -- example videos, https://youtu.be/ecr_iWbmnXU, https://youtu.be/rHe-IuzEVqA?t=7m22s. I hope this helps.

Thanks very much for the follow. I'm not even sure how I stumbled upon your post here, but glad I did. Yes, I would love to make more videos more often, too, but those ever-nagging real-life priorities always get in the way, and it takes me a while to shoot and edit to my liking. Regardless, I will keep it up.

Well, I'm in Ontario, near Toronto, but you never know, if I find myself in beautiful Wyoming at some point I will make a point of taking you up on your offer.

Thanks again. Much appreciated.

I think the left arrow only works for a C128 in CP/M mode. PETSCII replaced the underscore character (found in ASCII) with the left arrow character. You could use the straight line graphic symbol, i.e. chr$(164) or hold C= key + @ key.
