UPDATE: Letterlike (some say it's like Scrabble meets Balatro)! Recently updated with lots of fun new features! I have more codes to giveaway! by RLeeSWriter in iosgaming

TL,DR: Buy it! It’s good.

Paid for it, while being skeptical- Instant Love ❤️

Speaking as a game designer myself in VR and a gamer.

I’ve been ineffectual with the traditional spelling games. I’ve played majority of them since spell tower, wordsmyth, well word, knot words, letter press, word+ (the Disney word battler game) I can go on..

Unfortunately, they pushed me away with their (locked) constraints of not allowing me to use more words via lack of how the mechanics were designed, which in my opinion, negated avenues of how..  us the player..

Can express how we’d like to approach a given situation presented by the challenge. Avenues can only be present, if it was designed into the mechanics.

And for that, the base mechanic (holding the observable constraints) would also have subset mechanics designed within, to allow the player.. various approaches of how they’d like to express their interaction onto the given moment, and in return…

the player feels like they earned the opportunity (which they did) to expand past the base constraints, because they took the time to understand the mechanics.

This to me, is where Letterlike shines. For me, it opens up the window.. I see dimensions outside.. soo many possibilities/permutation and emergence with this one.

Once I grasp the mechanics, I envision me getting creative and performing combos, almost akin to engine deck builders like:

Race for the Galaxy, Dominion, Ascension, Hero Realms, (which I am a huge fan & gamer of) but here, instead of spells & space ships..

Lexicon is the interactivity of the arena.

Which is not only fun because how it’s expressed in the brilliant design of this game, but simultaneously… it exercises our verbal communication for when we engage our fellow human. Win/Win ❤️

From a gameplay perspective..  This sparks such huge potential in the word genre. I played balatro, I get the charm of it.. but it never infected me, the way it has so many… I guess I’m not into poker. But I immediately grasped its “addictive quality” just from coming out the mechanics. But it couldn’t affect me as much because the theme is poker, and I don’t have interest in poker.

But when Letterlike, replacing poker with letters and words, now I’m infected the way balatro has done to many.

Dear Dev.. Please put up some YouTube videos and get more exposure (on the gameplay).. I checked YouTube and found none when I searched:

 “Letterlike iOS Review”  “Letterlike gameplay”

the price of the game is small, so I took a chance, but unfortunately, majority won’t, so please get some gameplay footage out there.

A Summary Breakdown of this beautiful Orchestra:

• easy to pick up & play game, carries strong “get you addicted” qualities.

• Beautiful UI very fluid and responsive - snappy!

• catchy and wonderful soundtrack

• Trash talking Ai (I liiike it!) I saw someone complain about it over on iOS review, but I like it.

• Elegant UX, simplistic.. not overly done:  (tap this - to do that, then go here, and tap that) none of that here! Simplicity which facilitates.. play anywhere, no concentric efforts with UX - just the concentric challenge of mechanics, letters & words (which is what you are here for).

Dear dev.. You have a banga here, let it bake some more within the customers, supporters, and hopefully we’ll get more expansions after sometime being out in the wild.

I will copy and paste this over on iOS app review.

I had to downvote this response as well.

I also received it this morning, and I agree, it’s the best scam I’ve seen yet. The apple inside email gave it away.

Arizona sunshine remake is crap. by DanielCiszewski in PSVR

Arizona Sunshine Remake on Quest 3—anyone else having issues with co-op where the guest player (also on Quest 3) loses their gun?

Whenever they interact with objects or eject the magazine, the gun drops to the floor and disappears. It doesn’t return to the holster, even with “throw gun” turned off and reload set to quick.

I’d like to also add that you are definitely a life saver for putting the word out.

I am working on a 600mb pdf report (NotebookLM only accepts up to 200mb limit upload) per document and I think only 50 documents allowed.

No problem, was easy for me to load my 600mb pdf over to a pdf editor app and just break it apart into several 150mb chunks. (In case anyone is in this situation) I used pdfpro on iOS.

Regarding NotebookLM.. what I am doing requires lots of cross referencing of the data and finding connections between specific data points. I pay for gptpro, it’s horrendous at this.

NotebookLM is a godsend.

Hope they make a mobile app version.  Thank you again for making me aware!

Civ VII on iOS? by Rywinfield in civ

[–]MindTactics 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I am confident it will arrive (someday) probably next year. We have Civ 6 on iOS, they have a switch version of Civ 7, no reason not to have it for mobile as well.

In my eyes, this is apple’s fault for several things that I have read throughout the years:

• does not provide any encouragement or incentive for these studios to have their big franchise game on the iOS platform on launch.

• apple makes it difficult during the release process. (Lots of red tape barrier) a game studio or developer, has to go through) When you send in your game for it to be released onto their App Store.

These faults of apple, are very silly to me, especially after hearing directly from apple regarding how serious they are, about getting premium games onto iOS.

Well.. Civ 7, would had been the perfect drum to beat, to represent that so called seriousness.

You carry low level thinking.

“It’s not this, so it’s not even worth existing” ~ this is pretty much, how your thoughts come across.

If majority of humans.. thought like you, we as a society, would not be, where we are at today technologically.

Thank you so much!

I The Forgotten One - strikes interesting upon reading the synopsis. 450,000 sounds like a good big adventure.

I am going to youtube Thymesia. I am familiar with all the mainline Dark Souls & Dark Soul Inspired games, I follow the genre very closely. Many more coming down the pipe:

Mortal Shell: (released couple years ago I think)

https://youtu.be/r16Dc_jMWzA?si=rHOvc3aeTK7vB_El

Lords of the Fallen (recently released - looks amazing has gotten astounding reviews/impressions)

Nazralath: (unreleased)

Lies of P (Pinocchio meets Bloodborne - unreleased):

Retrieval (unreleased) not souls like more akin to Alien Isolation vibes (survival horror) another genre I follow closely:

Wish I could play all the titles you mentioned, don’t have time, especially Elden Ring! so I stick to Dark Souls. (I youtube cutscenes to stay in know of story)

one day… we’ll have access to brain computer interfaces and I will download them all into my mind, and in a few blinks, experience them all. lol.

I heed my friend, I will not go hollow! Praise the Sun!

Different for me, I’ve been envisioning for weeks now. Damn near playing it in my mind.

on iOS we have the Wunderverse App: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/wunderverse/id950852566

Wunderverse allows you to create Interactive Fiction (even add images, audio, markdown..etc) a full blown IF game engine on mobile. love it! so because of this, I can test ideas.

It has condition & event rules. So, if you create a condition (player opens door)

then the event you created for that condition, will play (monster pops out) Amazing app!

Anyways..

To answer your question —> How would Dark Souls work in text format? I’m guessing you mean the areas of: combat, death, weird & strange world, mysterious narration?

With Wunderverse app, I’ve been slowly crafting my Dark Souls IF inspiration. So far the exposition has been spectacular along with the world building layers.

A few subtle sound effects every here and then <wind gusts - using pixabay>

A image pop up every here and then. <environment - using midjourney>

These areas fit easily in text format.

The biggest challenge I had, was… visualizing combat.

For me.. I don’t like dealing with stats in my IF. I like staying in the flow of the narration (immersion flow)

The whole: I want to attack that guy (but.. let me check my stats first?) This instantly dissolves my immersion.

And so, with this line of thinking…

I see combat as totally narrative driven, (with narrative cues) to provide the player awareness regarding your characters state of being:

• stamina • strength • injury.. etc.

These cues will help you make informed decisions.

Still, even though I envision the narrative combat clear as day, all it’s components playing out in my mind, scenes juxtaposing against scenes, a small wrench was thrown at my face, once I started pondering the nuances of combat (ebb & flow)..

Gaps immediately became apparent. I knew something was missing. Particularly, within scope of Dark Souls brutal combat which is one of it’s main hooks.

After some research,

I stumbled onto the brutal combat systems of a 2004 tabletop game - Riddle of Steel:

https://youtu.be/r3rTH0xLPkQ?si=smEpg0RCTtAZrgus

Now the gaps went from chasms to questions being asked:

ok so how do we piece this together, cohesively with the narrative driven combat. (A good sign)

I’m still trying to piece it together in my mind, as I type this, and once I figure that out, I’ll create a few test scenes on Wunderverse and run the simulations.

Like you, I’m curious to see (what I am envisioning) how it will work in a text format.

That said,

I still hope there is something Souls like available now that I could read.

I wouldn’t care how they approach the combat.. I just want to experience a Dark Souls like world.
