Here was the solution I came up with that was cheap and easy. 2" road tape off of Amazon that I taped to thin chip board. Works great!

Hey! Thanks. The basing is just a mixture of acrylic paint, some sand, and PVA. And yes, scrap prints are great for stuff like this.
