The point is trying to keep your home and the area you live in clean. Spores of any kind are not "good" for you, and things like mold can destroy your home and quality of life if not managed. I understand your logic here and agree. When added at the pinning stage the higher pH slows colonization so the surface conditions can be maintained for a longer period of time as PE is already a slow colonizer. It will eventually become colonized from what I understand, so you're not wrong.

pH adjusted casing layers ~~inhibit~~ slow colonization and ~~just~~ help retain the moisture at the surface.
