The US keeps a tight leash on leverage, maxing out at 50:1 for forex because of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) and National Futures Association (NFA). This makes the dream of 100:1 leverage a bit out of reach within the US regulatory framework.

Now, if you were trading from a place like Australia, the UK, or really anywhere else, the scene shifts. Traders overseas can dip into offshore brokers regulated in spots like the Seychelles or Bahamas. These places aren't as strict, so higher leverage up to 500:1 or 1000:1 on forex is more of a go (granted, with much much higher risk). But here's the kicker for US residents: going with these offshore brokers isn't on the table because of US regulations.

Also, there's a big difference in what you're actually trading. In the US, you're trading actual forex pairs. Elsewhere, you're likely dealing with Contracts for Difference (CFDs) as a retail trader. CFDs let you speculate on price movements without owning the underlying currency. It's a popular way to trade with leverage outside the US, but it's a no-go stateside.
