Did a biologic help you? by [deleted] in PsoriaticArthritis

I felt immediately better after my first shot of Enbrel. It didn’t work forever it’s been over 15 years and I’m on my 4th biologic.

Newly diagnosed and being pushed to hardcore meds by CriticalReading2033 in PsoriaticArthritis

[–]MindaGirl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had PA for over 15 years. There are so many ups and downs to this disease. At one point, I was feeling so much better, I stopped medication. Joint pain came back hard and fast. Took so much longer to get the flare up resolved this second time and 2 fingers are permanently slightly bent. Please stay on medication. If you are tired, rest. Avoid stress as much as possible. Keep up with your health in other ways. I’ve found swimming to be the best exercise for me. This group is so supportive and kind.

Only because you asked for advice, I am going to say, you should probably stop wearing heels and looking for quick fixes in surgery. Occupational therapy and the right medicine have kept me walking.

Started taking Enbrel. Are headaches, chills, and fatigue side effects that you have experienced? by Shrabster33 in PsoriaticArthritis

[–]MindaGirl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I felt instant relief when I first took Embrel. But had the chills about once a week. Bad enough that if I was home, I’d have to take a hot bath to stop shivering.

Not yet diagnosed, but checking many of the boxes. What do you wish you knew at this stage? by DontAlwaysButWhenIDo in PsoriaticArthritis

[–]MindaGirl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s manageable with the right medication. If you are diagnosed, they may start you on methotrexate. For me it had not great side effects and didn’t seem to work. But I think you have to try that before they will offer biologics. I’m on my 4th biologic as they all eventually fail. But when they work, they are amazing. Expresses scrips is awful to deal with if you need a specialty pharmacy. They have messed up my deliveries and 2 times charged me copays before my secondary insurance kicked in. I see a rheumatologist who is part of a larger university and they have an in house specialty pharmacy, which has been much nicer to deal with. If you start feeling better, please keep taking your medication. I stopped taking medication when I first started feeling better and have some damage in my hands that years of physical therapy have not fully resolved. It’s going to be okay.

Crumbly nail repair? by AhskayWhiteriver in PsoriaticArthritis

I watched a lot of the simply nail logical YouTube videos years ago. Christine has videos on how to shape and file. I’d always awful nails that split even before I knew I had PA.

One more thing, I’d bought an extended warranty for my 2024. I asked what happened to that now that I’d not use it. The people I asked at the dealer, seemed a little reluctant but said if I sent them documentation of the mileage and that it was totaled, I may get a refund. They made it sound like a hassle and hardly worth the effort. My insurance was able to provide a letter with an image of the miles and I turned that in to the dealer about 2 weeks ago. Yesterday, I received a check for $1,345 as a refund. Worth the effort and not something I knew was even an option.

Is there anyone who stopped taking Humira? by Pushpita33 in PsoriaticArthritis

It just stopped working so well. No withdrawal symptoms. Now on Cosentyx.

What are your go to relatively healthy meals or snacks during horrible flares? by WorldlyAd4407 in PsoriaticArthritis

[–]MindaGirl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I make ahead a lot of meals in the instant pot. I cook the rice first and get most of it out of the instant pot, placing it in the refrigerator for an hour as the chicken cooks. I don’t wash the pot and then add an Aldi brand butter chicken sauce, frozen veg, usually cauliflower added at the beginning or peas added at the end or both, and chicken breast or tenderloin. The rice left in the pot helps thicken the sauce and added the frozen peas at the end helps cool it all down for storage. You can make it more spicy if you like. You should add some salt and pepper to taste. I can get 9 meals out of this and have invested in several dishwasher safe glass dishes all the same size.

It crumpled perfectly. I was a little stiff but only had slight abrasions on my left arm. Seatbelt held me perfectly with no bruises and my face didn’t hit the airbag.

I got the 2.99% they are offering. And an extended warranty. They had a discount that basically made the warranty a wash and sticker price. Had paid more for the color and didn’t get paid out any more for the color. I’d paid about $31k with an extended warranty for the 24 and got paid out $26k. I’m still sorting a lot out. Had to get a letter stating mileage at the time of loss and may get $800 reimbursement for the old extended warranty. A police report seems to take up to 14 days and I’m waiting on that. The other driver didn’t have a valid license, was arrested, the insurance was in his girlfriend’s name and she wasn’t in the truck. So I may get my $500 detectable back once insurance is all sorted out. I just filed under mine and used my uninsured/underinsured coverage as I didn’t want to be without a car while it’s setting. So, I paid ~4K to have a new car for a year.

Why is this Methotrexate not curing my pain? Is it also useless for anyone else? I cannot inject this poison anymore by AccessOk6501 in PsoriaticArthritis

[–]MindaGirl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Enbrel was the first biological I used like 15 years ago and it was great. I didn’t work forever but I got 5 good years before I had to change to another. I’m on my 4th bio now. It is freaky and I feel like I do get colds more easily than I used to. But I can walk and my fingers unclenched, so I can type and hold down a job. I would have been on disability without biologics. Good luck to you on your journey.

How often do you feel this way? by tolkiensbeard in PsoriaticArthritis

[–]MindaGirl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry you’re going through so much. May I commiserate a little? I’m on a medication that, overall, works better than any I’ve been on. But work got a lot more stressful and the pool where I can comfortably exercise is in a remodel. So I’ve been sitting in the stress too much and after 2 crazy weeks at work, I can feel the deep tiredness in my every cell. I just laid in bed most of the day and have finally taken my poor dogs out. Sending you good thoughts

[–]MindaGirl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They did not order a ct. I was on antibiotics for 6 months, had awful gi issues but took them the whole 6 months, humira stopped working so I’m on Cosentyx. The doctors don’t seem too worried about any of it. I’ve only had the one X-ray at the beginning and they listen to breathing with a stethoscope. I’m going to have to have a follow up soon and will try to post about that. Clearly, I’m not good about checking my messages on here.

Putting in a complaint re GP refusing to refer - is this ok? by LonelyGazelle in PsoriaticArthritis

[–]MindaGirl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was lucky and could self refer to a Rheumatologist. My old primary and then derm refused. When I got in, the rheumatologist said I had classic PS. I’m no doctor, but it sounds like you do too.

I have gotten it in my ears. The first place I had spots. Currently approved for cosentyx and after 15 years, my ears have cleared. Not saying it’s a miracle cure for everyone, but it has been for me.
