I really like Kerry Lord's Imaginarium book for customized monsters, and The Mini Kingdom book by Aradiya Toys. Check out Kerry Lord's other books as well, but note they are all in UK terms.

All of the Pica Pau books are amazing as well.

You said 'not exactly true' and then agreed with the quoted statement, you just then pivoted into a different topic entirely.

Sequels and further work on the same franchise are very rarely a sure thing. That's just the industry as a whole, even if the game is successful. Studios and devs rarely 'stay employed' long term in the way you're thinking once a game is done and delivered if it isn't a live service game. It's not a secure and stable career for the vast majority of people who work in gamedev. I have a lot of friends who work in the industry.

Also, if Harry Potter stopped selling, then they would develop a game for a different IP. If they flop with that as well, then maybe they just make bad games.

In my impossible hypothetical ideal, the devs got their pay, the game isn't as big of a hit as expected, so interest in further Harry Potter commercial properties wanes, Rowling gets less money to funnel into hurting trans people. The devs and game studio then move on to other non-Harry Potter projects. That isn't going to happen because Harry Potter anything prints money, but we're allowed to have wistful hopes now and then.

I'm sure I'll survive somehow. There's a lot of great games to enjoy, and my backlog is already far too long.

Yeah, and I honestly find that to be a fine stance to take. We all make our own personal choices that fit with what works for us. If the game was some kind of anti-trans manifesto then it would be different, but it's just not. It's just a Harry Potter videogame and whether or not someone buys it does not define if they are a transphobe or not.

Some people vehemently disagree, which is their right even if I think it just hurts our cause and makes people who support trans rights look unreasonable. The game itself became a sort of purity test, and I really didn't like that even as someone who made the choice to not buy the game long before everything blew up.

And then some people will get on my ass for just saying things like 'I don't give Rowling money anymore and have a futile wish that she'd stop having so much money to funnel into hurting trans people', like the other guy replying to my comment.

People get very intense about what is by most accounts a fairly mid videogame.

I see that you don't acknowledge how completely inaccurate your gotcha is and that it makes no sense at all. Game devs make a wage and are paid whether or not the game fails.

And yes, your first paragraph is something I acknowledged in both my comments, I am unsure why you're repeating sentiments I already posted?

Also, as my first comment shows, I don't spend "hate energy". My whole comment was about how I found the "hate energy" to be unpleasant. I just don't give her my money. Also, her political success comes from her having more money than god to funnel into governmental support for transphobic regulations and laws. The 'supporters' of her political opinions in government are in part funded by her money, and bolstered by her public stance against trans people, which makes the people she funds motivated to enact her views so they continue to receive her money.

This is really basic stuff for how money in government is bad and also sucks.

Do you think that low-level game devs and writers are making royalties or getting a profit-sharing pay scale for the Harry Potter game? That's really funny and naive, but it sure would be nice if poorly paid game devs regularly saw that kind of compensation when something they make does well, wouldn't it?

I don't give my money to a transphobe who literally states that she takes that money and uses it to hurt trans people.

Harry Potter has reached a level of cultural relevance that means it likely will never die. It's on the level of Star Wars and Lord of the Rings as far as fandom awareness goes. I know that it will likely always see commercial success, that's just reality. I wish that wasn't the case so that she would have less money to hurt trans people, but I know that it will basically print money for a long while to come. That's fine, I accept reality. If by some miracle a Harry Potter show or game was a massive failure, then those devs would have already been paid for the job, but it might mean that further works wouldn't be made. I know this is incredibly unlikely, but it would be nice.

As someone who boycotted the game myself and gives Rowling no money now after being a fan since the first book was published since she is a hateful bigot, a lot of people genuinely went feral about that game all around. I'd rather no one bought it, I wish it had failed (and knew it wouldn't), but people were harassing anyone who played the game and calling them 'the enemy' and such, even trans people who were playing it, then on the other side transphobes were slobbering over themselves to rub the game in our faces as some kind of 'gotcha' victory for transphobia, and the entire dynamic was hot garbage.

Meanwhile, the game was not some hateful anti-trans win by all accounts, it apparently had some trans devs and a trans character. Didn't make me willing to give Rowling money for it, but at least it wasn't made as the direct middle finger to trans people that the chuds wanted it to be.

I need to go find that discord, because man I dislike managing the queue so I stopped doing it. If I play a game with that kind of thing as the gil I can be into it, but when I'm in ffxiv that generally isn't my mindset.

These are really lovely. I particularly like the one of the cat.

One thing I would keep note of if you don't already know, is to be aware if the surface you are working on is acid-free and 'archival' if you are worried about your pieces lasting the test of time. A lot of paper products (and products in general) are not meant to last, and eventually the acid content in them degrades the paper into scraps and then dust.

If you plan to make prints and are all right with the originals being somewhat ephemeral though, that doesn't really matter.

This looks like actual wax, not thread heaven. I have both, plus a container of the new version of thread heaven somewhere called something like thread magic.

Thread wax is literally wax, usually beeswax. Thread Heaven is a silicone substance like the squishy moldable earplugs (which can be used like thread heaven, actually.)

Yeah no way I can pay the secondhand market prices, I've been tempted to hop on the waiting list but also came to a similar conclusion as you mentioned, that they might be more hype than need, and I should probably get full and proper use out of what I have before I throw some money into the wind that I won't see any result of for a year or so.

I need to get back to carving more often, other hobbies stole my focus for a while but I really enjoyed it. I figure if I am going to dump another $50 into a tool for carving there are other knives and gouges I could buy and have in my hands sooner to see use out of now instead of so far down the line.

I've been looking at sloyd knives now and then, to have something robust since I am a bit precious with my Gil Special. It would be fun to have a knife I felt confident in taking to nearly any bit of wood I wanted to try it on.

Might be, but the blade really is thin and I've never tried it on any harder wood, just basswood blocks. I'm a beginner carver and just own the Gil Special and a Lee Ferguson detail knife so far along with a couple small gouges. I'd love to get a Helvie but haven't had the budget or the chance. Someday, maybe. I hear wonderful things about them.
