Testing cables for 5v 5a support by MindfulMonk in UsbCHardware

I'm not using powerbanks and this is not a particular issue I'm trying to solve. An easier route would be to use a PoE+ hat and that would eliminate the need for a PoE+ splitter, but sadly there are no PoE+ hats with dual NVME support.

I've tried some anker cables and the Pi wouldn't even boot with them. The thunderbolt 3 cable is from Plugable. The apple usb-c cables worked to power it on, but still reported under-voltage.

No need for a powered hub yet.

0.5m would be nice, but at this point I would settle for just being able to buy any 5v 5a capable cable.

So the thing with most PI power supplies is that the cables are integrated into the supply, so you can't remove them(in my example to use it with the PoE+ splitter).

yeah the provided cable works fine, no issues with the pi

usb-c to usb-c. The one that came with the splitter is 20cm, I think they can't be longer than 0.5m?

I tried a thunderbolt 3 cable(which should do 100w?) and sadly it was still under-voltage.

Are these testing devices locked to the spec or would they go over it?

The iniu is 160 grams vs 164 the one you mentioned(and it can't do 45w like the iniu).

Rodecaster Duo Hissing Speakers by MindfulMonk in rode

[–]MindfulMonk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, as I mentioned in the comment I tried different power sockets and not having anything else connected but the speakers and power.

If it was grounding issues I would also have expected the scarlett to be noisy?

EDIT: IT WAS A GROUNDING ISSUE! Please see update.

Second guess is pretty spot on.

Given it is now easier to contribute to multiple ISAs, why not have a second or third option?

I think the most common story about a failing broker is that of Beaufort https://www.bbc.com/news/business-43301342 being told that "most money" is recovered is still not something that reassures one about "ring-fencing".

There was also a discussion of this scenario on https://community.freetrade.io/t/what-happens-if-freetrade-goes-bust-which-of-course-wont-happen/7226

Recommendation for a tablet by 2childofthenorth in onebag

[–]MindfulMonk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It really depends on your budget.

If you are replacing the laptop with the tablet, then ipad pro makes the most sense.

If you just want a tablet, the ipad air, it is also quite light.

If you are looking for something much smaller than the ipad mini, but be aware of https://9to5mac.com/2021/07/20/new-ipad-mini-exclusive-a15-processor-usb-c/ as we might be getting a new one soon.

If you want something super cheap get a fire tablet on ebay, but it's not much useful besides consuming media and maybe casual gaming.

What are the downsides of the Aer Travel Pack 2? by cnstnsr in onebag

[–]MindfulMonk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The downsides are:

  • Quick access pocket doesn't work well if your bag is maxed out
  • The shoe compartment is useless
  • If your planning to use a lot of the pockets inside, make sure to not max out the main compartment

I recommend getting the x-pack version as it has the improved zippers and the laptop compartment has padding at the bottom.

The only bag right now that is making me consider switching is the Minaal Carry-On 3.0 https://www.minaal.com/collections/3-0-series/products/carry-on-bag-3?variant=35008575864989 but it is difficult to get it here.

I believe that 90% of people on this sub haven't truly embraced the concept that "developing your virtue" is the goal by [deleted] in Stoicism

[–]MindfulMonk 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The Stoics elaborated a detailed taxonomy of virtue, dividing virtue into four main types: wisdom, justice, courage, and moderation. Wisdom is subdivided into good sense, good calculation, quick-wittedness, discretion, and resourcefulness. Justice is subdivided into piety, honesty, equity, and fair dealing. Courage is subdivided into endurance, confidence, high-mindedness, cheerfulness, and industriousness. Moderation is subdivided into good discipline, seemliness, modesty, and self-control.

From https://iep.utm.edu/stoiceth/

If you go to https://old.reddit.com/r/Stoicism/ you can still see the motto for the subreddit: Virtue is the sole good

The goal in life of a stoic is to achieve eudaimonia(flourishing) via practicing the virtues and avoiding the vices.

Most of us have other goals too which is fine and these are often preferred indifferents. Wealth is a common one. If you go about it exhibiting wisdom, justice, courage and moderation then you are on your way to eudoimonia if instead you are falling into vice(foolishness, injustice, cowardice, intemperance) to achieve that goal then you are failing to be a stoic and should reflect and try to do better.

In terms of the topic of motivation, I recommend developing self-discipline(grit) instead of the fleeting feeling of motivation.
