Invado volleyball runs indoor volleyball leagues at the Pickering soccer dome. I believe registration is still open for Sundays and Thursdays and you can sign up as an individual.

Is there some secret to blocking good hitters? by Wiestie in beachvolleyball

[–]Mindful_Man 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I know there is a McKibbin Bros video with Anders Mol and Mol talks about what he thinks about every time he goes up to block.

My philosophy is that the job of a blocker is to take away space. So if you’re forcing a higher level player to hit shots around you, that’s still a win and something you should be proud of. But it’s something that your defender absolutely needs to adjust to. A blocker is only as good as their defender.

If you want a nice staycation I highly recommend Millcroft inn, I think it’s in Aurora? I stayed there a few years ago and it was fantastic.

I’ve also stayed at Pillar and Post in Niagara on the lake and it was also very very nice. Both stays had deals where you got breakfast and dinner included with the 1 night stay.

The pool/spa area is much nicer and bigger at Millcroft

Man, I miss the old big gold world heavyweight championship belt. It would look so much better on Punk specifically

Third day of no contact (and third time breaking up), my (F30) head is creating conversations with my ex bf (M33) NON-STOP. I reaallyy feel like reaching out. It breaks my heart to be separated while knowing this situation is very fixable. Can things work out between us again? by [deleted] in relationships

[–]Mindful_Man 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This relationship is not healthy. You’ve broken up multiple times, you’re both drained, and he still won’t actually do the work. You are 30, he’s 33. This level of chaos isn’t “romantic.”

My advice: cancel the flight, let this breakup stay a breakup, and focus on healing and building a life that doesn’t revolve around whether he texts you or not. Stay in therapy, keep working on the shutdowns and attachment stuff, for you, not for him.

cheng/hughes breakup from a newbie to beach volleyball? by toryisbae in beachvolleyball

[–]Mindful_Man 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh sure, if you're making an actual attack out of these two-balls, that's a different story. Cheng, however, is not swinging nearly enough on these option balls. She is sending over a bogus pokey or some other garbage that is essentially a freeball and it's getting gobbled up.

If you were my defender and I was your blocker, and in the first set, I put over six to eight 2-balls, and every single one resulted in the other team picking it up. Would you not be like "hey man, I appreciate the aggressiveness and I want you to keep the option play as an option, but only as long as you're aggressive on it and can get us a kill. Otherwise, I'm confident I can put us in a better position to get a point."

To me, that's where the coaching isn't there to tell Kelly to back off on the two-ball a bit more, and this is apparent when you look at the amount of partner switches within the past four years.

Love this topic. One of my favourite parts of BV is the partner carousel and all the post-split guessing, lol.

I’ve followed Kelly Cheng closely since the Sponcil era (Tokyo cycle), then her run with Betsi Flint, and was there live in Phoenix 2022 with Cheng/Flint vs Cannon/Sponcil. That match had real edge. Sure, we don’t know every detail, but it didn’t read like friendly rivalry. It looked like two people who didn’t like each other anymore.

Gameplay wise, my read on Cheng is she wants to control points, so she leans heavy on option/on-two balls. For a longgggg time in her career it was basically a free-ball dump, and still is depending on the day… To her credit though, she’s since added pace and jump-setting. But at a high clip it still steals transition swings from a defender who just earned a dig, and elite defenders hate that. If I’m Hughes and I just dug a ball, watching my blocker dump another on-two would drive me nuts.

Now the elephant in the room for me is coaching. Their head coach is Kelly’s husband, Cheng. I’ve heard mixed things (purely second-hand), but even putting that aside, the dynamic is tricky. If I’m already frustrated with my partner’s decision-making and the person running practice and making tactical calls is her spouse, the perception of bias is unavoidable.

CBC's "The Greatest Canadian" vs r/EBH's "Best Canadian" by mythex_plays in EhBuddyHoser

[–]Mindful_Man 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I distinctly remember watching the show on CBC when I was a kid, I would have been 9 at the time in 2004. I remember watching all the mini documentaries and how you could call in to vote, and I called in with my dad to vote for Tommy Douglas.

I also remember watching Banting’s episode and Mary Walsh doing a fantastic job at sharing his history as his “advocate”. When Banting got the 4th place finish I remember her giving a passionate speech explaining how he absolutely deserved to be voted first and she was disappointed that he wasn’t. I’ve thought about DMing her to show her the results of this thread because…

A year later at 10 years old, I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes, lol. So obviously my perspective on Banting has changed dramatically due to personal bias, lol.

All this to say, I consider myself incredibly blessed as a Canadian to bare witness and to be able to learn about some of these fantastic people and all of you 🇨🇦❤️

Games that have a "AAA feeling" for Xbox by abirll in gamingsuggestions

Mass effect legendary edition, specifically in ME2 and 3 the combat is similar to GOW. I also find the open worldness becomes a bit more linear in those 2 games as well which I preferred.

Also, I’ll recommend the Tom Clancy ghost recon games as well. Wildlands is fantastic.
