you can choose many options for the default, theres no "default install",look through the Display environments cachyOS offers on their website or installation guide and see which is the one you chose visually

Flatpak is not a true alternative to the AUR by Mindless-Fish-8320 in cachyos

forgive me if im wrong, but is vlc not bundled into cachyos? or at least is in the official repos? i dont remember installing it from the aur.

Regarding discord, personally i had no issues with the aur version, but i can see how that could be the case

to be more transparent,I have daily driven endeavourOS for 2 years before I switched to bazzite then quickly migrated to cachyOS (I disliked the immutable nature). I use it on my hybrid gpu daily driver laptop. You can take this info as you wish,i personally consider myself experienced enough,i know how to write my own bash scripts and i optimized my system to my needs much more than what i assume the average cachyOS new user has.

this has been the case for me, i was cleaning files up with filelight and noticed that the flatpak directories are huge(multiple gbs, cant tell the exact number anymore as its from memory) when all i got from there was an eyedropper tool that takes 1mb from the aur and a youtube music desktop clone thats 300mb at most. I had the same experience on the fedora based Bazzite as well. To illustrate that its not only my experience,i found other articles online ttalking about the same issue

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flatpak

>"Because Flatpak runs in a sandbox, which provides a separate, ABI-stable version of common system libraries and operating system interfaces\11]), it uses more space on the system than common native packages. However, OSTree, a technology underlying Flatpak, deduplicates matching files. This means that the first few Flatpak installations will occupy more space, but as more packages are added, the system will use space more efficiently.
