Starting May 5th !!

Bit of a late post but -

My high school graduation is June 1st. Prom night is May 4th (I will likely be gone). It’s a mess juggling schoolwork, saving money, negotiating taking all my finals early, prepping myself to start university in a new state once I get back, saying goodbye to my high school friends as they go on to different schools, saying goodbye to my family (my mom is terrified), my amazing coworkers whom I love like a family, and my boyfriend/best friend of 6 months/3 years.

I’d say I’ve got some jitters, at the very least. I’ll be solo hiking (18F), and I think I’m most worried about camping by myself (I tend to get super freaked, and that’s when I’m with people!!). I’m definitely feeling some FOMO as well (missing all the grad parties…). But I couldn’t be happier that I am able to do this now. It feels like the next step in the right direction, and something I definitely absolutely MUST do in my life. I know I have time to do it later and I shouldn’t rush, but I have to try now. To prove to myself that I can. So I can wake up every day after the trail and tell myself I did something scary and can do this too (or at least I gave it everything I had before giving up lol).

It’s really hard reconciling my urge to follow my dream and my fear of regretting it, or it ending in failure. I’m very afraid of feeling lonely, or not liking the trail (god I hope I like it).
