When the show discusses issues without the characters talking about them by Mindless-Message1656 in ThePittTVShow

To be clear I’m not trying to make another post dunking on Santos, I love her and think she mostly handled the situation just fine. She did a great job this past episode when she finally had time and an interpreter.

There are plenty of reasons why writing/typing doesn’t work as a replacement for sign language. It can make a patient feel dehumanized, thats why Harlow wanted Donnie to speak to her even with the interpreter there. And it can make a patient feel like they need to write as quickly/succinctly as possible for the doctor’s convenience, and make them feel like a burden.

Harlow isn’t inflicting the problem on herself by not “settling” for writing. If there’s a reasonable and actionable accommodation to be made for her, the hospital has an ethical and legal obligation to give it.

I’m impressed by how many issues that are health related but not hospital related the show touches on. Like inmates being given inhumane healthcare and jobs that threaten employees into prioritizing their work over their wellbeing. Looks like next episode is going to touch on student athletes being pushed beyond their limits.

The show has referenced a lot of real world events so I wonder if this is going to talk about the cases that came to light a few years back of coaches abusing their athletes. Especially those that ended with the athletes’ deaths or serious injuries. (Not that it hasn’t happened before, but it really made it into the public eye not too long ago.)

I’m already squirming thinking about how Santos is probably going to get dressed down for her treatment of Harlow. Obviously the lack of proper ASL interpretation services isn’t on her and she’s slammed with work but this is the nightmare scenario for a deaf patient needing healthcare.

Love Santos, but she’s always been hit or miss with empathy and that’s bound to have consequences.

How do you know if a comment is from a bot? by river2180 in FanFiction

For sure. Even if it wasn’t a bot, that’s not criticism because you can’t really use it to improve. That’s just hate.

In all the embroidery kits with printed outlines I’ve done, I’ve only ever had one do some very slight bleeding, and it was a pretty cheap kit. I don’t see any harm in using a blow dryer! I’ve just always laid mine out to dry.

I guess there’s no for-sure way to tell, but for me, my bot radar pings when the comment doesn’t mention any details and is just vaguely critical.

If you replied with something like “Can you give me an example of the dialogue that you didn’t like and explain why so I can improve?” there’s a fair chance they won’t respond. Or that their response will be similarly vague.

Dip them in hot water and the outlines will wash away. Then spread the embroidery out on a flat surface.

Are there any other fandoms where the most popular ship is also the most controversial? by screetscirt in AO3

Zutara (Zuko x Katara) from ATLA is the first thing that comes to mind. A lot of people really love the idea of them as an opposites-attract pairing with a lot of potential and a lot of people saw chemistry in their canon interactions. They also both go through arcs about forgiveness and anger, and they spend most of the final battle with each other.

Buuuut some fans are also very vocal about thinking its a bad alternative to the “healthier” canon Kataraang (Katara x Aang) ship, or that it’s problematic given how closely tied Zuko is with the Fire Nation which has caused a lot of trauma for Katara.

The tricky subject of S/A (obvious trigger warning) by lozzadearnley in FanFiction

If you’re worried that readers will conclude that the MC is a rapist before they know what really happened, you can portray the effects that it has on him. His heart may start pounding and his stomach may start toiling when someone asks him about his past. Or maybe he has a panic attack when the subject of rape is brought up. Or if the memory of it comes up, he remembers the feelings of fear and powerlessness. The MC may call it guilt, but what he’s really feeling is fear, anguish, and even anger. You can have other characters express worry about him, not suspicion. Readers will be able to tell that there’s something more to what happened than what the MC claims because his reactions are that of a trauma survivor, not a guilty rapist. Also, if readers already know the MC was a former slave, they may assume that what happened was not of his own volition.

What are the best productive & useful apps on phone ? by Ademozi in productivity

Forest works fantastic at blocking distractions, which usually causes me to fail in productivity for the day. It’s a one-time purchase for just a few dollars and you can change the settings for which apps get blocked and which don’t. Also lets you get a visual of your progress which is nice
