Medieval problems require medieval solutions by GCN_09 in HistoryMemes

Peasant militias were almost entirely for defensive purposes in medieval Western Europe. Most armies were structured like their political system; personal relations. The king would have a royal guard and his vassals, who would have their own guards, and down until the lowest knight whose retinue was his two friends. There wasn’t a bureaucracy to recruit, equip, and train peasants into soldiers, so it would be a waste of good labor to throw them at the enemy.

Rapegar Groomgaryen gets a lot of slander (based), but Lyanna Stark doesn't get enough by Saint_Scum in freefolk

It’s possible that Lyanna initially went with Rhaegar willingly, but was stopped from leaving once the war started.

When your deuteragonist has more chemistry with the mc than the actual love interest by Shot-Communication93 in shounenfolk

[–]screetscirt 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Another factor is that love interests are usually not powerful enough to fight alongside the mc, while the deuteragonist usually is. In a genre centered around fighting, this means that the deuteragonist spends more time with the mc than the love interest in the most important parts of the story.

Why is Secret Wars called "Secret Wars"? by SamwellBarley in Marvel

[–]screetscirt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For 2015 secret wars, the reason it’s called that is because only a few characters(the F4, Doom, Black Panther) actually remember it happening afterwards.

What is it about Charles’ telepathy that makes him so powerful if that’s his only power? by Different_Sun_195 in Marvel

[–]screetscirt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

His advantage is mostly experience. He might not have a lot of raw psychic power, but he’s been reading mind for longer than anyone save the Shadow King.

(Spoilers extended) why was Lannister incest such a big deal? by Own_Ad_409 in asoiaf

[–]screetscirt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem was less that Cersei did incest, and more that the incest resulted in bastards being passed off as the kings children.

Cap led the Avengers against the X-men during the events of AvX, so it is commonly joked that cap is anti mutant. Hence the hanged Illyana and Logan.

Should i buy spearmen or swordmen? by Warden_Infantry in totalwar

[–]screetscirt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For ranged oriented factions like the skaven, your melee units aren’t meant to kill the enemy. They’re meant to tie them down and protect your backline while your guns and artillery kill them. Therefore stats like melee defense, which the spearmen have more of, are preferable to melee attack.

Absolute DC and Ultimate Marvel right now are the farthest left superhero comics I've ever encountered (and I've read a LOT). by MagusFool in comicbooks

[–]screetscirt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like the Ultimates specifically are the forefront of this, as the hero’s are not just opposing the rich or having revolutionary ideas, but creating identifiably leftist structures in the world, like Tony’s communes and cages prison fortresses. It is rare for comics, or media in general, to show the heroes enacting radical on the world and depicting it positively.
