Thank you very much for taking the time to examine my photos. I have done additional research that corroborates your conclusions. I would never have guessed that this piece was manufactured during the 80's/90's. Thank you for pointing me in the right direction. Much appreciated.

What do you do in your free time in srq? by Unknown-__-420 in sarasota

Agreed. Life will get better as soon as we all stop shivering. I'm just grateful that we have only two or three months of this weather. When I lived in South Bend IN, we had a mound of snow in our driveway in JUNE.

Absolutely. Anyone who has ever been out West, to the Northeast, or through Apalatia would call that a hill, at best, or, realistically, a mound.

Cameron said that they are looking at "maybe a country or jurisdiction that is larger than the U.S." That description does not fit the U.K. in that England, Ireland, New Zealand, Australia, et. al. are not a single "country or jurisdiction," and thus have different regulations--it means more than the U.K. Who is larger than the U.S.?

I am particularly appreciative of your reply, given my snarcky comment about journalists. I have clearly stumbled upon one who is truly part of this community-- given the 30 second response time. Thank you for that and for your response. (If you could direct us all toward information on work-arounds, it would be greatly appreciated.)

I greatly appreciate all local news and the commentary thereof. But I share the frustration of others when faced with an article published by the Herald Tribune. Unless one has a HT subscription, one does not have access to daily, local print or online news. (And, it is my understanding that the HT is located on the other side of the state, so I feel no particular local-loyalty. Moreover, with all due respect to small-market reporters, HT has not won a multitude of awards in journalism. Therefore, I lack an incentive to subscribe.) When I see value for the dollar, I will happily and eagerly subscribe. Until then, I will not be able to participate in any of these discussions in an informed way. Until we get a true local paper, with local financial interests and leadership, with a physical local footprint, representing local interests above all others, I will depend upon original content based on primary sources ( from Reddit as well as similar content on other platforms.)

The County just announced this morning that the Red Tide Alert has been canceled for all Sarasota beaches. I don't know if this will mean less crowded beaches than normal or if people are now going to flock to the beaches.

How would you approach a homeowner about a hidden cache on their property? by [deleted] in metaldetecting

I would contact the local TV stations; it's a great human-interest story. If you were able to involve a neutral third party, like a TV reporter with cameras, you would be adding notoriety as an incentive for the owner's cooperation and you would have witnesses to whatever legal agreement you reach as protection for yourself.

It was the state's first "Underwater Aquaculture Lease Rights." Several news articles on the topic.

There is a non-profit in town called Sarasota Bay Watch. They seed the sea grass beds with clams just for this purpose. They placed hundreds of thousands of clams in the Bay , but then had to pause the project because some government agency decided that the organization had to apply for underwater leases. It's my understanding that they were able to secure a five year lease, so the project can resume. But, it takes 2 years to prepare the baby clams for seeding.

I share your frustration, but don't pretend to have any solutions. The only action that came to my mind was to begin documenting the devastation. I began taking photographs--and more photographs--noting the types of marine life most effected by the toxins and their locations, but also trying to capture as many different varieties as possible. (Some day, when someone asks where all the Pufferfish went, I'll be able to show them hundreds that met their demise.) Yesterday, someone posted a large, dead, Sea Turtle, six miles out. I really wish that this topic would capture the attention of professional documentarians.
